As far as I can tell, this just stinks of rumor. Would Apple switch chips and lose the Velocity Engine? I don’t think so. Besides, the story came from the Wall Street Journal, a bunch of white collar Bill Gates kissing idiots.

IBM doesn’t manufacture anything for Apple besides chips so citing the tablet patent as proof is pretty weak. Chances are they would pass the manufacturing of a tablet on to one of the same companies that already handles the Powerbooks or iBooks.

Personally I think they should take a nice long look at the Cell processor. If Sony hasn’t over-hyped it to the extreme that they normally over-hype their products then it is one heck of a processor.

Just to let you guys know, this intel thing and apple is true. IBM doesn’t manufacture a Tablet PC or Palm Pilot Processor.
