Wait for it… Wait for it…
This is slightly Off Topic, but a good little read. You’ll see the relevance at the end. It’s a comment from Slashdot, on the post titled, “Nerds Make Better Lovers”. You can read the comment at Slashdot, here, or below, as I’ve copied and pasted it. Terrificly funny stuff.
HER DIARY:
Saturday, May 21st 2005
Saw him in the evening and he was acting really strangely. I went shopping in the afternoon with the girls and I did turn up a bit late so thought it might be that. The bar was really crowded and loud so I suggested we go somewhere quieter to talk. He was still very subdued and distracted so I suggested we go somewhere nice to eat. All through dinner he just didn’t seem himself; he hardly laughed and didn’t seem to be paying any attention to me or to what I was saying. I just knew that something was wrong. He dropped me back home and I wondered if he was going to come in; he hesitated but followed. I asked him again if there was something the matter but he just half shook his head and turned the television on. After about 10 minutes of Silence, I said I was going upstairs to bed. I put my arms around him and told him that I loved him deeply. He just gave a sigh and a sad sort of smile. He didn’t follow me up but later he did, and I was surprised when we made love. He still seemed distant and a bit cold, and I started to think that he was going to leave me and that he had found someone else. I cried myself to sleep.

Apple switched to Intel.
Absolutely gutted.
Got a shag though.
Ahhh, so funny. Can’t say I had that “gutted” feeling, but I know plenty of you out there do – hopefully this gave those of you who needed it, a laugh.
And thanks to ackthpt for the great comment.

this is a very strange question but the title “wait for it, wait for it” is that from a movie? it sounds very familiar and I could swear I heard it in a recent movie, my friends and I have been trying to figure it out but have come up with nothing, it’s driving us nuts. Please help, if it’s not from a movie sorry for the dumb e-mail.
Nick Santilli on November 10th, 2005 at 6:27 pm
Justin – just meant it in a comedic sense. as in the punch line, “wait for it…” You know it’s coming, it’s just waiting for the moment you read it.
that’s all. I’m sure it’s in some movies, or tv shows, but it’s nothing specific I was quoting.
sorry to drive you and your friends crazy over it. :)

Wait for it…..wait for it….
That’s from Braveheart.
Great movie.

This is amazing….we too have had that line “wait for it, wait for it” stuck in our heads for the past few weeks and we can’t remember where it came from. Can someone please let us know — this is consuming way too much of our time and energy right now.
Kelly on December 22nd, 2005 at 3:20 pm
Is it from First Knight? The Camelot army is in the woods, being charged, and King Arthur doesn’t want his army to get too excited. My coworker and I are driven nuts by this too.

Nick Santilli on December 22nd, 2005 at 3:40 pm
hahaha!
Sorry to be driving everyone nuts about this. I honestly don’t remember it being from something specific. I think it was mentioned earlier, that Braveheart may be one place, but First Knight seems a likely suspect as well.
Josh has been trying to get a contest idea going to do some give aways here on The Apple Blog – maybe solving this mystery will be one of the contests…

This is the hardest quote to find! I’ve tried looking everywhere and I still have no clue! This is driving me crazy!
I guess it could be from either Kindergarten Cop or Ghostbusters, but I thought the movie was more recent than that?
Any other ideas?
Chris Holland on January 11th, 2006 at 1:36 pm
What about one of the original star wars? right before Luke destroys the Death Star from his X-Wing? He’s flying in that narrow trench, holding for the perfect moment to launch that bomb in “the hole”.
Buckshot El Caribe on January 11th, 2006 at 5:08 pm
I can see where you might think Star Wars. The first guy (not Luke) who makes the run at the thermal exhaust port says “Almost there… almost there…”.
Thats definitely not it though. I don’t need to look up the script either, I can quote it from memory =)
Phil Hurlbert on January 13th, 2006 at 6:30 am
“Wait for it . . . Wait for it” is in Patch Adams when Robin Williams begins his “hello experiment” and swing down in front of the elderly lady, and then wait for the smile to come. Wait for it . . . Wait for it . . . Now! I don’t know, but would like to.
John on January 14th, 2006 at 5:08 am
It’s a quote from early episodes of M*A*S*H when Radar says, “Choppers!” and in reaction to everyone else’s questioning looks he says confidently, “Wait for it…” and seconds later everyone scrambles because they finally hear them.

I saw it in The Simpsons. Homer thought the end of the world was coming at a certain time, so he made everyone go up on a hill and wait. When the time came, nothing happened, so he said “wait for it, wait for it”. The y cut forward in time, and he is still saying it and his voice is hoarse. I’m sure they were quoting it from a movie because that is what they do.
Ken on January 27th, 2006 at 8:42 am
Finally… I have been racking my brain for 4 hours now trying to remember where in the hell I heard that line… “Wait for it, wait for it”.
Most recently, it was “The Simpsons” with Homer on top of the hill waiting for the world to end. Thank you for helping me prevent further loss of time and brain cells trying to figure this out.
Also…
It was in “Star Wars” but I believe it was “The Empire Strikes Back” when the Death Star (being rebuilt) was destroyed by the Millenium Falcon.

well, when I posted it, it was june of 2005, and people started racking their brains about it nearly immediately. so I don’t think the quote is from the end of 05/early 06.

i too am here from a completely spontaneous search for a movie with the lines “wait for it… wait for it” this has been driving my wife and i insane since she asked. even her trividiot savant brother is stumped. but, like you all, it seems to be at the tip of everyones tongue. i guess the answer could be (as demonstrated here) that its from everything, like trying to source “en guarde” or something equally universal, but based on everybodys frustration, it seems more on the level of Jurrasic park’s “clever girl”– most DEFINITELY from one biggie…
arrrrgh…
let me know………
Nick Santilli on June 27th, 2006 at 2:13 pm
What’s funny is that I don’t think there was just a single place this came from when I posted it. Stuck in my mind is that it’s from some Seinfeld episode, but I really can’t back that up.
I’ve mentioned to my wife about the comment thread going on here, and so now, everytime we hear the phrase, “Wait for it…” we start laughing.
I think most recently we heard it in Pixar’s Cars. Sorry for the sleepless nights everyone, I never intended that!!

I went to Quiznos for lunch today in Oxnard CA. I bought a Nirvana Sobe and under the cap was the words, “Wait for it… Waaait for it.” My search for this movie quote led me to this blog.
I thought it was from Sandlot where they’re trying to get the ball back from the Beast.
ahh well…

I got this movie phrase “wait for it … wait for it” stuck in my head this morning, and two hours later I ended up here. Looks like different people might be remembering different instances in different films, but having read through these posts, I’m nearly certain that the version stuck in my head is indeed from *Ocean’s 12* … I just can’t rememer where/when!
David on July 12th, 2006 at 11:25 am
Isn’t this phrase from a war movie, Saving Private Ryan maybe, when he is using the sticky bomb on the tank and they are hiding in the trench?
Lee on July 27th, 2006 at 3:28 pm
I read it in a review for Snakes on a Plane awhile back. The reviewer said Snakes on a Plane is a movie about, wait for it, wait for it, Snakes on a Plane!!!!
Now my son goes around saying wait for it, wait for it, Snakes on a Plane!!!!
Maybe it is just stuck in the group conscienceousness or something and not really from any movie?

anyway…here’s our guesses so far…
simpsons (homer sometime), american pie (hiding in closet for naked girls), jaws (ready to shoot the shark), old school (no idea)….thats all i have..
by the way, star wars quote is …”stay on target, stay on target….nice shot jansen!”
Dave on August 8th, 2006 at 1:50 pm
Guys…lets end this once and for all. A few months back on a cold night in New Jersey, I actually coined the phrase “wait for it” as a group of friends and I watched TV and waited for the NYC ball to drop on December 31. They were anxious to beat their pots and pans together prior to the actual changing of the year, and it was only due to my calm, collected chanting of “wait for it…wait for it” that they didn’t prematurely celebrate.
A month or so passed after that rowdy celebration and I began to use the phrase in everyday conversation. Eventually, I decided that the best use of the phrase “wait for it” would be in a situation in which you say something seemingly funny, but to your dismay, no one laughs. In response, one should say “wait for it” and walk away. Laughter will ring in your ears as you drift off into the sunset.
Of course, the phrase caught on…may have been picked up in a couple recent movies (not sure, and I didn’t think to copyright it at the time), and it even made its way to this discussion.
As an FYI, in addition to “wait for it,” I’ve also coined the phrases: “sweet-ass” (to show glee), “monkey-boy” (to describe a funny looking boy), and “no-homo” (to explain that while what you just said could be construed as meaning you have certain thoughts, you do not). By the way, none of these phrases are copyrighted either, so enjoy.
Glad I could help.
Nick Santilli on August 8th, 2006 at 1:54 pm
lol – I’m almost willing to take Dave’s explanation. Good stuff Dave.
My wife and I seem to hear the term ‘wait for it, wait for it’ weekly. It’s in some tv show, some commercial, some comedy sketch, some movie. It’s everywhere. Pick your source I guess.
This may not put anyone’s mind at ease, but we can start posting a list of shows/movies/whatever that repeat this quote. Do it as you hear it so you don’t forget. I’ll start pulling them from comments and post them as an EDIT to the end of this article post.
Erin on August 8th, 2006 at 8:53 pm
This is hysterical. I just watched Veronica Mars Season 2, Episode 19 and starting dying laughing when I heard the phrase “Wait for it…” I have spent so many hours in years past googling this and have infected many friends with this same disease. My roommate decided to google tonight after the subject came up yet again. I am happy that this discussion has been going on for a over year, because it makes me feel a little less crazy.
I hope the original is discovered. Until then, we will just have to “wait for it.” Pardon the pun.

I absolutely cannot believe how many people have posted on this deal looking for the exact same thing that I am looking for. It was killing me and the people I work with for a while, and after talking about it about two months ago, I looked it up. This is insnae. I’m sure it’s from a lot of different things, but I haven’t seen most of the things you’ve already listed. Simpsons, MASH, Ghostbusters, Braverheart. I know I’m missing out.. but I think it might be in star wars. Maybe also in one of the ninja turtles movies. Also, I bet it was on one of the episodes of friends.. it sounds very chandler.

OK, so oddley enough I was asked to site this very quote today at work and have racked my brain all day trying to figure it out… I cannot confirm this but wasn’t this quoted in The Matrix right before the EMP switch was thrown? Hummm… I will have to dig it out and watch it now… I’ll be back.

This is amazing. My wife and I have been infecting people with this question since 2004. The fact that there are others out there helps a little. But anyway, the “wait for it, wait for it. . . ” quote I always think of is older than 2005, and it may be from something from the 1980’s. It isn’t Sandlot or Braveheart or Ghostbusters, I checked (good guesses though). Crazy.
Ben on September 27th, 2006 at 2:04 pm

I thought I remembered seeing it in Top Gun, but I haven’t seen it in a while…

I have never seen Sandlot, Snakes on a Plane (regrettably) and I know I have heard this quote before. Robin Hood, Men in Tights I think is the oldest movie that the line has proven to be in.. As for the Simpsons, they have been re-manufacturing jokes and people etc from the beginning of time and that’s part of what makes it funny. It seems to me it has been said VERY seriously.. and also very funny. I have both versions in my head. Among the following people I envision saying it are: Mel Gibson (serious line), Jack Black (go figure), Brad Pitt (sarcastically but serious), Ben Stiller (funny), and lastly, Will Ferrel. I don’t know if this will spark any memories but… I, too, am here because I am dying to know where it came from! I said it the other day in a conversation (funny version) and it definately has some mileage to it! hahah Anyways, I’m am personally getting tired of “waiting for it” so someone figure it out! lol GREAT! ::eyeroll:: now David Spade is stuck in my head saying it, too.

He says it pretending to be a monkey when a school’s field trip comes to the zoo. There might be others but this is the style in which I was saying it.

How about in BackDraft when Kurt Russell says it in the building trainging the probees right before the one fireman get cooked,”wait for it…wait for it…”? Or maybe in Memphis Belle before Billy Zane drops the bombs? This is becoming really unhealthy.

MeMyself&I on May 16th, 2007 at 4:56 pm
Think about it people… Robin Williams Live on Broadway came before ALL of the movies you have mentioned with the possible exception of Life of Brian – however… the quote we all have in our minds, that has been used over and over again to everyone’s delight, was coined by Robin Williams himself! He is the one who made the “wait for it… wait for it…” so QUOTEABLE. We all watched that live comedy. All the people in the movies you’ve quotes saw him and are quoting him. He even quoted himself in Patch Adams.
Robin Williams gets the award for having coined this.
We’re done!
I have spoken.

This is an absolute phenomenon! Like many of you, I’ve had this movie quote stuck in my head for awhile and can not pin down exactly what film it’s from. Isn’t it strange that we’ve all been lead to this site? We’re like the group of people at the end of Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Exciting stuff. Anyhow, I can hear a male voice saying this in my head, like a Russel Crowe, real leading man type. And I believe he is standing behind a few other guys who are about to shoot or release something. So he’s telling them to “Wait for it” and the tension builds up as you think he’s waiting too long to “attack”. Then they release and the shit hits the fan in the scene. I can hear it and almost see it but I can’t name the film! Like you all it’s driving me nuts!! At first I thought it was Superman Returns but I don’t think that’s the original source. It’s not any of the other movies listed above, though it may be Jaws? It’s not Star Wars, that’s “Stay on target”, it just uses the same phrasing as “Wait for it”. Wait, is it Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers??? At the Battle of Helm’s Deep? When the Orks are climbing the walls or when the Elves are ready to release their first arrows upon the Ork army? Or is it in any of the Lord of the Rings movies? Am I on to something here? ANSWER ME!!!

it is from that bud light commercial with the two monkeys and only the one can make the leap…the other monkey is sayin wait for it wait for it and then the other monkey smiles at a camera when he says now
jerry on December 6th, 2007 at 12:04 pm
This site is too weird….
I am thinking a movie like Saving Private Ryan. Some war movie, battle scene, kinda like what Sean says, but more historical/real….
Erik on December 7th, 2007 at 1:48 am
I just watched “Conversations With God” and the publisher-guy actually says “wait for it” twice to the Neil Walsh character; BUT there’s no “NOW!”
Scott on December 7th, 2007 at 12:17 pm
#82 Mike is right – it’s Searching for Bobby Fisher during the championship chess match. That’s the one I remember it from anyway
andre on December 10th, 2007 at 12:09 pm
what the hell is wrong with you people?! It’s from nowhere in particular. Thats like saying, “hey, where is that phrase ‘Nice to meet you’ from? I think Ive heard it in a movie” …WTF!?
Scott on December 10th, 2007 at 12:14 pm
Oh that’s great Andre – and I bet you’re the type that goes around telling kids there’s no Santa Clause right???

I first started down this path to insanity when a good friend of mine, who was dying of cancer, posed the question. Literally on his deathbed, he asked, “What was the first movie to use hte phrase, ‘Wait for it… wait for it… NOW.’”
He died in 2005, and I suspect he’s somewhere laughing his head off at the fact that he poisoned the minds of several dozen of his friends before he left!
Yes, andre, it’s from nowhere in particular. But it’s human nature to wonder about the origins of such things, and that’s probably why you were here in the first place.

could it be from Richie Rich when they are throwing the manure bags at the guys by the fountain?
bruford74 on January 2nd, 2008 at 10:49 am
The one you guys are talking about is the same one I am trying to figure-out.
I am almost positive it came from an English character like Michael Cain on one of his recent movies.
dietcokehed on January 18th, 2008 at 7:53 pm
I too landed on this blog looking for the “wait for it” quote. This is a damn funny thread…just the existence of ALL these people looking for that damn quote. I’ve read enough movie and show titles here to realize I must have heard it in MANY places…I’m a movie-whore after all :)
I’m not even gonna bother wondering where it originated, because that’s probably not where I even heard it!!
pasteycakes on January 26th, 2008 at 8:24 pm
i’m probably bringing this back to life, but it just started really bothering me too. i can just picture it, the searching enemy passs a hiding group of the ‘good guys’ who are ready to surprise attack them, but the leaders holding them back for a few seconds and then lets them go with a “NOW!”
gahhh! what is it??
dietcokehed on January 27th, 2008 at 8:16 pm
I think I figured out where I’ve heard it the most recently. Doesn’t Barney on How I Met Your Mother say it a lot? I haven’t actually seen that show in about a year…but I’m thinking that’s where I picked it up lately :)
Not sure if he adds the “now” part always, but I’m pretty sure he says “wait for it….” before his punch lines.
pasteycakes on January 27th, 2008 at 8:25 pm
i haven’t seen that, so nope =[.
i’m feeling like its from the patriot maybe? before him and his two sons ambush the british in the woods.
but i’m not even sure if he says that or not.
chris holland on January 27th, 2008 at 10:49 pm
dietcokehed: Yes! Barney totally does say that. One of my favorite lines is when he says “LEGENDARY”. Sometimes he’ll go:

chris holland on January 27th, 2008 at 10:50 pm
argh in-between those ellipses there was supposed to be a wait for it for the first quote and an i hope you’re not lactose intolerant for the second quote.
bruford74 on January 28th, 2008 at 1:29 am
The way I remember it: It was said 2 times by a male british accent….”wait 4 it, wait 4 it”
Does anyone have a clue?
momsusan on March 5th, 2008 at 7:32 am
I’m also looking for the origins of “wait for it… wait for it…” Thing is, I can clearly hear Bill Murray saying it. Caddyshack (as someone already suggested) or Groundhog Day (my favorite). Any takers? Murray’s voice might have brought on the “Ghostbusters” idea. This will probably drive me insane.
Christina on May 14th, 2008 at 11:52 pm
Wow…I’ve been using this quote for, like, ever and I’m SO glad I’m not the only one who can’t remember exactly where it’s from. I know I’ve heard Robin Williams in his stand-up, but I’m pretty sure that he was spoofing some actually serious movie. From then on, it became a joke. But I reeeeally think it was serious at first. I totally agree…I feel like someone is about to be attacked.
Beansy Neckface on May 17th, 2008 at 7:48 am
I had a thought that it might be Gladiator. My brother posed this query to me last night and this chat basically follows my thought pattern except the Monty Python and Robin Williams things – I have never watched any of that garbage because it sucks. Someone mentioned Happy Gilmore and I think Verne Lundquist was the announcer. I will be watching this movie soon to see if that is the one I was thinking of.
Chris on May 27th, 2008 at 3:37 pm
I now realize that me and my friend will never solve what movie this came from. Based on everything above, I will let him know its just another drunken conversation that will go unsolved.
IvansBirthday on June 23rd, 2008 at 4:54 pm
Let me point out the two different uses and we really want to hear the proper ones answered:
1) Wait for it… wait for it… NOW
is the first and most obvious and if it’s from a movie it doesn’t really amount to much except that it was used to drop bird poop on someone or Homer waiting for aliens, Braveheart, StarWars, etc, etc. The usage is pretty common as Hold, Hold, or Wait, Wait, English accent, whatever. I’ve heard it too, but somehow this isn’t the issue…
2) Legen…wait for it… dary!
Used like Barney in How I met your mother is the one that should really bug people, because although we agree it’s just a saying, it’s definitely caught on in the last 3-5 years or so and now it’s everywhere, almost to the point of annoyance.
I first heard it in 2000 while traveling in Australia, as follows (quoting the tourguide):
“Here in the mangrove there are three types of egrets. The Great Egret… the lesser egret… and wait for it… the Intermediate Egret”. It was clearly used as a point of suspense, as well as saying something that was funny and obvious (or ironically not obvious) like this one.
It’s THIS kind of usage everyone wants to know about. So if can’t be quoted from a movie in this way, then it was probably just cultural, like “my bad”.

I’m in Germany and have had this line stuck in my head for years. Please god, make it stop! I think this isn’t even a line this is a premonition for something — the ‘NOW’ to come. Of course, it already is ‘now’. So what are we waiting for?
I have to go all philosophical on you guys, this is too supernatural. I have seriously lost sleep over this, guys and I need help. I might see a doctor.
For gods sake somebody just make a film with a macho male British actor who is on the verge of some onslaught and is holding back his crew by telling them to ‘wait for it.. wait for it..’ Then we can all just say it was from that film and shut up and go to sleep.

This is so amazing, I really have nothing to add, I just had to be a part of this phenomenon. It’s great to see that by the 4th comment this blog entry had been totally hijacked and derailed onto this topic of how we just can’t quite remember where this is from. I have no clue which it is either. In four years, when I come across it, you can bet I’ll post it here. Though, I gotta say, Caddyshack sounded right to me, and I can totally hear the announcer from Happy Gilmore saying it my head, but of course, that’s without the “…Now” part that was tacked on by someone in the thread.
Great job everyone, this is one of the most ridiculous and hilarious threads ever!

Its Richie Rich when the kids are going to throw the manuer bags at the guards…richie (i believe) says wait for it, wait for it….now over the walkie talkie and then the manuer is thrown and hits the guard. My friend and I have been struggling with this quote for a month now. Someone mentioned the richie rich thing on this blog and it hit a spot wit me and thats the movie I’ve been searching for!!!!!! Thank You Lord lol

Is it Bill Murray in Stripes? I think it is him, when I hear the line in my head.
Jacey on September 6th, 2008 at 8:39 pm
I actually think its from Ghostbusters and is actually Harold Ramis or Dan Akroyd. When they’re trying to catch the Slimer ghost in the hotel and they’re using the equipment for the first. You know – the whole “crossing the beams would be bad” scene.
Elisha on September 6th, 2008 at 9:44 pm
Although I can see why this would definitely be the topic of some late night drunks waxing philosophical, my friend and I were totally sober and became unhealthily obsessed with figuring out where the line came from. I think that I probably heard it first in Caddyshack because I can hear Bill Murray saying it clear as day. I think it has risen in popularity due to How I Met Your Mother because I find that people who don’t even watch the show are now using Barneyisms. For me, the question is solved. Thanks for your perserverance.

IT IS NOT FROM GHOSTBUSTERS I WATCHED THIS FILM FRAME BY FRAME LOOKING FOR IT! DO NOT DARE SAY GHOSTBUSTERS AGAIN.
And i would like to add that it is not possibly stripes or caddyshack, because I only saw Stripes for the first time a couple weeks ago, and caddyshack I have never seen.
Elisha, it’s nice to see you’ve convinced youself in order to sleep better at night, but I must tell you you are totally wrong.

For British Accents, try Notting Hill(1999) for sure and possibly one of the first two Austin Powers(1997,1999).
MikeJ on November 6th, 2008 at 5:57 pm
Glad to see I’m not the only one searching for this! My frame of reference is definitely from a comedy, NOT an action film (a la Braveheart, etc.).
My best guess is Friends… I’m picturing something like this: everyone realizes something, they all look at Joey, and can see the wheels turning as he’s trying to figure it out, and Chandler saying “Wait for it… wait for iiittt…” and then, “NOW” as Joey finally catches on.
ALSO, #99 bruford mentioned Michael Caine… this struck a chord with me, especially when a few others referenced English/British accents, and made me think it could be one of the Austin Powers movies!???
Help!
Nika on November 20th, 2008 at 4:39 pm
OMG! lol my 6yr old son said this line this morning. I can hear this plain as day. A male voice in a British Accent. Could it be a cartoon of some sort. “wait for it, wait for it????????
bruford74 on November 20th, 2008 at 7:01 pm
I’m almost sure it’s Michael Caine(or however you spell his name) in some recent movie….He’s been in so many lately…it could be any of them….maybe the new one that he stared in with Jude Law…I think its called SLEUTH…or maybe BATMAN….or even THE PRESTIGE!!!!

This is truly unbelievable, like so many of you have said… The fact that this quote has spontaneously popped into all our minds, drived us insane, and lead us here on this site after searching it on google. It’s just amazing. I would never in a million years have guessed someone else was in the same dilemma, let alone over 100!
And it’s funny that its from SO many movies… yet… none of them seem like its what I’m spefically thinking of!

I cannot believe it!! A few friends have been trying to figure this one out for the past few weeks and then I look online and this is what I find?!! The windex commercial sounds right. I just don’t know. How can this one line be driving so many people crazy? Oh, I know……wait for it……….wait for it…………..we need to get a real life!!! Could someone come up with the answer already.

Let me add my name to the list of people looking for the source of this quote. My girlfriend and I have been saying this to one another for a few weeks now, and it’s been driving us nuts trying to figure out where it’s from. I’ve suspected that it might be an Arrested Development quote (seconded by some other folks on this board) ’cause we watch that show a lot, but I also (like some other’s on this board) seem to remember the line being spoken by a man with a british accent. I can’t believe there are so many others afflicted with this. It’s in the zeitgeist!

My co-workers and I were recently trying to figure it out too! What a crazy world we all live in. I know I’ve heard somewhere recently and I really don’t see that many movies. Was it possibly in the movie with Brad Pitt where he plays a trainer at a health club and they find a disc they think has secret information on it? I can’t remember the name of the movie but I know his character was pretty dorky. That’s my only guess right now really.
Some of my co-workers thought it was either an Adam Sandler movie, Star Wars, or one guess was from Sponge Bob SquarePants.
Steve on May 26th, 2009 at 6:56 am
For you guys posting clips….About about posting the NAME of the movie vs saying here is it x:xx seconds into the clip. I can’t see the clip so this helps NOT!!!!
However, I am thinking that everythin has heard it and all from different sources. I personally think my version is from Caddyshack. I will have to watch it tonight to make sure. I also KNOW it came from the Simpsons episode everyone is referencing. I know it is NOT from the Sandlot.
billy on June 8th, 2009 at 11:40 am
No one has mentioned the one I’m thinking of. It’s more of a “wait for it” while their waiting for someone to react to something, like he ate sometbing bag or is figuring something out.
Then the person reacts and the others all laugh.
It’s in a movie, but I can’t remember.

It is used in Monty Python’s Flying Circus (the tv series) season 1 episode 4 “Its Owl Stretching Time” 1969 and also in at least one of the movies “Life of Brian” 1979 (this is the 3rd movie and it is likely in one or both of the others as well (I think it was one of their repeating phrases in the tv series).
