Does anybody know if there is a way to use the photo connector also with the 160 GB iPod? The iPod says »this device is not supported by the iPod«. Not a really friendly hint from Apple...

I bought an ipod vid and camera connector for the same reason as many of you.

In two words... Think Different.

I shoot in RAW format, and instead of a 20 second upload to the ipod, it was a couple of minutes. This is unacceptable. I figured it was my camera speed of transfer, but when I tried it with my 4 year old Creative Nomad Jukebox 3... it took l ike a minute to upload ALL of them

Thank you once again Apple for helping me think different.

Anybody wanna buy an ipod video?

I have an 80GB iPod purchased in November 2006.
I have an Apple iPod camera connector purchased in February 2007.

The first few times I used the camera connector to upload photos from my Canon Digital Rebel XT and Canon Powershot S45, it worked brilliantly. I used this process on a 7-day trip to Morocco, uploading about 750 3-4MB pictures. Then I deleted all the pictures (after transferring them to iPhoto, which worked much as it does with a camera; I wish iTunes wouldn't start up though).

The next time I used the camera connector, it appeared to be working, took the right sort of time, used up the right sort of MB and created the right number of thumbnail "positions". However, only 8 thumbnails were created, and only these 8 pictures were accessible.

When the iPod is connected to the iBook, iPhoto now says "no camera connected". The iPod shows up in the Finder.

Fortunately a friend had a laptop to hand, otherwise that would have been it for photography over Easter. Any ideas as to what went wrong and what to do about it?
I don't think I'll be able to trust the iPod again for this job, unless there is a fix that can be applied "in the field".

It is an extremely expensive failure. (I've also had problems getting music onto it: again, it worked perfectly the first time but all subsequent attempts to add more music from iTunes have failed. iTunes says it can't write to the device.)

Thanks
Catherine

Dennis -
what happened to all the movies on your computer?
If your ipod is set to auto-update upon being plugged into the computer, I wouldn't reconnect it yet either.
what you may be able to do is find another computer, that your ipod is not currently associated to and put some media retrieval software on there, to pull everything off and avoid losing it.

check macupdate.com or versiontracker.com for software options.

I totally just got a brand new 60GB iPod, with the APPLE Camera Connector. First, I was hoping it'd work with my USB2.0 Card reader, and it didn't. It works with my Canon Rebel (the 6.1MP one).

But it is SLOW. Unless the Mini5 connection is only USB 1 compatiable, something else is wrong. My guess is that it's the Mini5 from the camera that is slowing it down, but 5 photos took at least 20 seconds to transfer...so when I go out and shoot 150 photos, it should take...20 minutes??

Then of course I tried to get iPhoto to take the photos from the iPod - maybe they updated iPhoto recently, because there is a nice little "import" button now. Of course it didn't work. It imported 2 photos, then hung on the 3rd. Clicking "stop" transferring takes about 40 seconds. Then I tried to import again...this time it didn't do anything for about 30 minutes, then stoping takes 40 seconds.

BAD APPLE.

This is very important and very concerning, because this new iPod is to replace my laptop when I do location photo shoots and I need to take 8GB of photos in a few hours...but of course, with USB 1, 8GB would take HOW LONG to transfer???

Anyone know of a compatable USB 2 Card Reader (CF) that works with the iPod???

ADOLFO:
Thanks, I'll look there again - I've checked it a few times. I've only noticed options to upload images from iPhoto, not to download them from the iPod.

I hope I'm just blind and missed it. Will check when I get home.
thanks

I believe that under the preferences menu on the Ipod when is connected to the PC or Mac there are controls on it and says PHOTO press that one and there is a function to automatic pass all the pictures to your computer.. I had it on Automatic for some time I did not like the function and I switch it to manual.. what it does it places all your pictures on Iphoto, well I dont really trust Iphoto for my pictures I trust way more Photoshop, so I prefer to put it on Manual... (have you seen the mess Iphoto makes to your pictures?)

I think this solves your question

I don't know that you are required to have it in Disk Mode or not (probably so), but I just turned Disk Mode on anyway. I would have expected iTunes (or iPhoto) to just initiate the transfer, but it doesn't go that way.

so....I'll keep trying to see what I need to do.

I also was very angry of not to see my pics on the iPod. But when I connect to the Mac transfer of the fotos into iPhoto Lib will start with a hit on ENTER.
Not very exiting, but better than to have a 2nd Disk for only for pics :-(

Do you normally keep the iPod in disk mode? Does it require that you remain in disk mode to use the photos? From what I understood, I was thinking that the latest iTunes will move those pictures to your iPhoto (or "My Pictures" on Windows) when you plug in the Pod, but I could be wrong. The latest iTunes, I've noticed, copies all of my calendar and address book stuff for me. I think Apple's wanting to get rid of the iPod part of iSync.

If you can't figure out how to do this with Automator or something, let me know, and I can write a Cocoa app for you. There is the ability to do this, but I haven't seen an app that addresses this specific task yet.
