Dunno if I'd be the first one to buy the mystical uberdevice, but Apple has pleasantly surprised me before. Been a Mac user literally since 1984, so am solidly in the Mac-Fanatic category.

Well i own a qtec pocket pc, yes yes with windows on it.
But i really find these devices pure overkill, there are functions that i have never used and probably never wil use. That's because these devices are trying to suit everyone.

If apple does make an iPhone they should really target to one consumer market, or make several devices.
Oh and not make the mistake of putting a small screen on it like on the iPod, it's nice for the iPod (a piece of text here, a video thumbnail there) put when you start putting icons an menu's on a 2,5inch screen it becomes unusable.

But the idea is great!

Yeah I've been thinking along those lines. Kinda like a T-Mobile MDA (PDA/Phone) but with stuff like iPhoto, iTunes, some kind of VoIP function, Calendar, E-Mail etc. and it all sync with my iMac. I can't wait!!!

Have been reading the site for a while and i like it. An uber apple device would be pretty sweet, i don't believe apple have tackled the gaming industry enough. I think that apple with the brain power of the whole apple team could come up with something revolutionary there.

The long awaited iPhone that rumours keep popping up about would be a good start for apple to get a foothold in the uberdevice market!

I ersonnaly dont own a mac PC but have worked on them and i do rather like them, I do own the Ipod which i suppose in a way introduced me to the mac world. And i do love a good bit of mac news keep up the good website dude.

I think something more like Dvorak's idea may be close to the truth - iTV iSight Leopard's new iChat = video calling moving from the PC in the backroom to the front-room. Make it something easy enough that families can use sat on the sofa, through their nice big new TV. Makes sense, and would distinguish it from other set-top boxes out there.

uberdevice? I think you are close to the mark. But not an Uber device that has evrything including the kitchen sink.... this is not Apple's style. But I see an Uber device focused on some key mobile applications... iCamera, iPhone,iPod iWeb ..... something along these lines. and probably even tuned into .mac. Uber yes! iWant!

"A device like this is eminent"

I think you mean "iminent" and I agree. Also I can't think of anyone else that can do this well. Someone mentioned the Nokia N95, this is a good example of why we need Apple - from the perspective of a mobile phone manufacturer the N95 is a fine device, maybe the best of it's type so far, but this just ain't gonna fly for the general public - it looks like a fat phone.

Just because no one has done covergence well, doesn't mean it's impossible to achieve,

I hope not and doubt it, there is no such thing as covergence. If they make a devce like that, it will be in it's own category like the ipod, a digital media player. look at itunes on the motorola phone, flop. most people carry a phone and an ipod. many people own nanos and ipods, why? one for sports, one for TV. (if I were apple i would continue to separate out nano as a sports only device)

At some point itunes will have to be separated from itv in order to maintain leadership in digital music. a new brand should be created for the digital video coming, i hope it's better than itv, which is lamely derivative and frankly a half assed attempt.

Apple should let, even nurture products that diverge, and offer as many variations as viable, even create new brands for them, rather than shoe horn people into one product. the former wins every time the later is chrysler's kcar.

Great article and i hope your right, somthing big could be great right now with apple verging on taking over the living room and pioneering the way we use our current media, another ground breaking device to go with or contrast with the current range would be great not just for us the consumers but for apple it's slef too.

i hope that made sense im kinda rushing it
