Nice writeup but faulty logic here:
"Two of the applications in the bundle, Disco and iClip 4, haven’t even been released yet, and must be giving up hundreds of full paying customers just for this bundle."

Or alternatively, gaining hundreds of sales from people who would have never bought their apps in the first place. I for one would never have paid anything for Disco or iClip 4. But as it is, they're getting at least some money from me now.

Owen,

Just to point out, we know exactly who much the charities are getting -- the MacHeist website keeps a running total of both the number of bundles sold and the amount raised for charity. Currently it works out to $44,403 / 4070 = just under $10.91 per bundle for the charities.

"Also announced was that 25% of profits would go to one of eight charities"

and

"If most users are paying around $40 for the bundle, with 25% going to charity, $30 is made by MacHeist per bundle."

THis might not add up. We don't know how much the charities are getting since profits are calculated after the expenses are taken into account. And we don't know what those are. Considering the people running the 'heist' might have an hourly rate to run it.

I am not sure about this scheme. Out of the 10 apps there are only 2 I would use and I already own one of them. There is maybe another app i MIGHT use.

I decided to go and buy the other app I would use direct from the developer, why should I be lining someone elses pockets instead of the developers.

Jon H: You realize that all the developers are doing this of their own free will, and for most of them, they're getting thousands of sales that they wouldn't otherwise get, so it's a good deal for all of them.

itistoday: There were already 25,000 people at MacHeist before the charity part was even announced, and I don't think there's anyone buying the bundle just based on the charity, so Phill and all the developers are just getting less money because of it.

Very disappointed with the holding back of apps #9 and #10 for more profit - the pack shouldn't be advertised as 10 apps for $50 if we're only getting 8. Maybe the thing will hit $50K, but I doubt $100K at the pace it's going.

That said, $50 is still a great deal for all these apps. And I am of the camp who wouldn't be buying this software in the first place, so the developers are all getting money from me that they wouldn't be getting anyway. I think that my case is similar to a lot of folks, maybe?

All I know is that I don't need another copy of Disco, and I wouldn't dare gift THAT to anyone in its current state...

This is such ridiculous bullshit.

"lso announced was that 25% of profits would go to one of eight charities which the purchaser can select from.
...
Phill and his team decided to hold back the final two applications with a requisite that the sales of the bundle rack up first 50 and then 100 thousand dollars for the charities. “We wanted to give the Mac community as a whole an opportunity to show how generous we are,” Phill stated, “Donations will be made in the name of the Mac community."

Oh yeah, real generous of you there Phill. A donation is called a donation because you get nothing out of it. You should be ashamed of yourself, claiming that you are generous when in fact you're simply using these charities as a scheme to get more people attracted to this stupid MacHeist crap so that you can get a larger profit from that 75% that you're not donating.

"What better way to say thank you to such an awesome group of people, as well as Phill and his team who made this all possible, than by purchasing the bundle?"

What better way?

Buy the apps at full price from their makers, rather than putting your money in Phil's pocket and letting him stiff the developers.

I got mine this morning, I hear the price is going to go up as time goes on so I didn't want to wait around - this is an amazing deal. Delicious Library alone makes it worth it, that's one of my top 3 favorite Mac applications.
