As asian I could never afford that price, too expensive for me that’s like 50,000 pesos in Philippines currency converted from USD…my gosh! how on earth can I afford that? How I wish someone will help me get the CS3 even I have to pay 5,000 pesos(what I can afford) I won’t ask it for free…I have been dreaming about it for real.

CS3 biggest rip off in history.

Over 5,600 people think so (at least) http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/fair-pricing-for-european-software.html

And a fair few of those have also asked the EU to investigate the non-US market pricing disparity.

Great software, insane pricing differences between the US and everywhere else - CS3 premium works out, by today’s exchange rates, to be some £500 dearer than the same software bought in the US. And that is by no means the worse comparison.

$400 for software is not out of the reach of students in the sense that students are accustomed to paying for $125+ textbooks and ever-rising academic expenses… I paid $250 (I think?) for the student price of Sibelius, a professional music notation software.

Arno: InDesign CS3 will be backwards compatible with CS2 using the InDesign Interchange Format, just like you do going from CS2 to CS1, now.

You will need to get the updater for CS2 that allows it to read an .inx file from CS3, when available.

Keep in mind that some features that are exclusive to CS3, like some of the new transparency stuff, will be effected or omitted from the CS2 document…so you probably wouldn’t want to incorporate this as part of a workflow. I would hold off upgrading to CS3 if you have to work in a collaborative environment with other users who might still be on CS2.

Way too much money for even the student edition. How many students do you know that can put up 400 bucks for some software? They already had to buy the hardware…

Adobe is going to suffer big time over this one. Bloatware! There are not enough compelling reasons to move from CS2 to CS3 to justify the money that adobe wants. I pass.
And i think that many others will too.

June: As I wrote in the article, Adobe said there is a future for GoLive, but not as part of the Creative Suite.

Denú: You’ll have to forget about Freehand. Adobe has deemed it redundant with Illustrator.

Phil: Visit Adobe’s Education Store. The standard pakages are $399, the premium packages are $599 and the Master Collection is $999.

GCFielder: Individual apps run $400-$600 each with upgrade prices at $200.

I have been using Photoshop since version 2.5 and I know it is wonderful software but it is far too expensive… If they reduced the price wouldn’t they get more sales? If you can distribute the software over the internet then surely the only cost would be the extra bandwidth and processing fee which are minimal.

I’m turning to Open Source more and more these days as I simply can’t justify a months wage to buy these products!

$1100 for the basic CS suite? What a joke. You can buy an entire MacBook or iMac for that price.

What will a single app like Illustrator cost? $500?

The student editions will soften the blow for some of us, but it’s hard to believe that it will be less than $700 for Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat together.

No wonder people find smaller, non-bloated apps like Lineform a better deal. And no wonder folks steal software.

Lightroom is a Universal Binary. It runs on PPC as well as Intel.
