I would say that QuickSilver is an amazing piece of software and it is more that just a search engine.

I tried Google Desktop for Mac and it is very convenient (and very fast) for searching both my local disk and GMail. I use GMail a lot and it was a pain the search my mail separately.

There is an interesting video overview of GD made by Mike Pinketon:

Nope. It didn't submit... What I wanted to say was I don't think that google desktop actually fills a need on the Mac, not in Tiger, and probably even less in Leapard, and the problem is that google are really PC developers with funny ideas about programming apps. I really don't want these kinda people let loose on my User Experience...

What happened to my earlier comment? I don't think it was OT or inflammatory...

My experiences with Google Desktop for Windows will keep me far away from it's Mac version. Not that it's needed anyway. If you need to search Gmail, just load up Gmail and search. You don't need yet another app/service/(what ever they are called on the Mac) taking precious CPU cycles creating a third index for files and apps.

I use Quicksilver mainly for its vast amount of plug-ins but rarely search for a file with it -- It feels underpowered in that area as far as I'm concerned. Spotlight is also underpowered and really slow. I just downloaded Google Desktop and it fits the bill perfectly.

Yeah, I'm with Andrew.

Who cares if it breaks, what's the point in google desktop when we already have built in things that are better?
