I tried Google Desktop for Mac and it is very convenient (and very fast) for searching both my local disk and GMail. I use GMail a lot and it was a pain the search my mail separately. What I wanted to say was I don't think that google desktop actually fills a need on the Mac, not in Tiger, and probably even less in Leapard, and the problem is that google are really PC developers with funny ideas about programming apps. I really don't want these kinda people let loose on my User Experience... Nope. Not that it's needed anyway. If you need to search Gmail, just load up Gmail and search. You don't need yet another app/service/(what ever they are called on the Mac) taking precious CPU cycles creating a third index for files and apps. Spotlight is also underpowered and really slow. I just downloaded Google Desktop and it fits the bill perfectly.
