No grief here ... if it is not ready I am glad they are holding off. This just shows you why Apples OS is always considered superior to Windows.

Besides, shouldn't we be used to this after the Intel Mac wait, then the iPhone wait??

Fun article! It's a pretty accurate portrayal of most of us Mac fans. Funnily, I can sympathize with most of the above posts. Apple *does* seem to be slipping a little in how tightly it sticks to its own schedules, but maybe this was inevitable...they've been delivering such impressive results at such incredibly regular intervals that I'm often amazed by it. Maybe the overworked teams at Cupertino needed some down-time to go get some sun or play old Classic OS computer games.

One of the things I've had a lot of trouble with is the magsafe power connector on the new intel laptops. I've been through 3 in a year although I'm a careful and not ridiculously mobile user! It'd help if they reinforced the cable a bit more where it meets the magnetic connector and made the magnetic connectors more robust.

Re the late release of 10.5. It's not a tragedy for me as I'm not waiting on it to buy a new machine. Even once it comes out I will wait, like Christian, for my favorite apps to get ported over...and there're a bunch of them (Quicksilver, anyone?). It'll probably be worth waiting until 10.5.1 or 10.5.2 before making the switch.

Re the iPhone. Admittedly it's cool although I'm very curious to see what sort of provider deal will be set up here in Europe when it comes out. I just wish that, having spent these extra resources on the iPhone (at the cost of Leopard development), Apple would've opened up the much-coveted possibility of Third-Party apps on the iPhone.

Returning to today's hobby-horse, am I the only one who thinks Quicksilver would be an awesome phone interface? (I know there's a product out there that resembles it...but QS on an iPhone would make my year).

Good to see at least one blog to make people calm down.
I for myself ignored the leopard hype and bought my wife a refurbished macbook just 2 weeks ago. The machine is damn fine as exspected and works very well with Tiger. :-))

When Leopard is available and my needed apps work on it without any hazzle i am happy to switch our 3 Intel Macs to 10.5.

In the meantime i am thinking of ways to get the iPhone here in Europe before XMas. ;-)

The Tiger works so well i do not feel much pressure to switch to Leopard, except for Time Machine. But my Backup/.mac Chronosync Backup solution works very well too.

I went out and got iWork to lessen the withdrawal,
But I am over it, I think.
I was reluctant to put my Mac's through an upgrade anyway.
That time machine has to be a load on this little MacBook anyway.

Spend my time further developing my tumblelog and getting folks to believe in this platform as the next big thing!

Apple corporate HQ has scarily lost focus.

Quality of product (I'm talking about manufactured product -- hardware) has simply tanked. The last FIVE apple products I've purchased have failed in under 18 months of normal use (3 lap tops, 2 iPods).

I wont buy another, or if i do it will ONLY be for the OS.

And Guess what project, apparently, isn't getting resources from Apple management?

Way to go Steve -- you're turning Apple in to the Ford of the 70's -- lemmon land.

I don't know why anyone thinks this is somehow like Microsoft. First, this is a first, second, it's only four months. MS misses dates regularly and sometimes by years.

My only disappointment is having to wait longer for iWork and iLife upgrades. Though that could enable Apple to include more than just a spreadsheet in iWork.

Life in the tech-lane goes too fast as it is, it's nice to have to slow it down and use that "so last year" software a bit longer. :)

On Stage 3: I've seen a lot of "Give me a free coupon and I'll forgive you" type bargaining all over the Mac-net. The thought process is that patience has a cash value and their waiting has earned them something.

If I had known then what I know now, I would've bought iWork '06 back in Sept. when I got my MacBook. Since I've waited this long, perhaps I should wait six more months.
