Adobe releases GoLive 9
When Adobe announced Creative Suite 3, GoLive was absent from the lineup. But Adobe promised to continue development of the application for a Spring 2007 release, and today they’ve kept that promise. GoLive 9 is now immediately available for for purchase as an electronic software download from the Adobe store for $399 with an upgrade price of $169 available for users of GoLive 6.0, CS or CS2.
How does GoLive differ from Dreamweaver, the web design application included in CS3? Adobe is targeting GoLive 9 to “professional designers who want to build web design skills.” The new features in this version “help make the web more accessible to designers who don’t have a background in HTML or other web technologies.”
This intuitive new version empowers non-code savvy design professionals to create modern, CSS-compliant websites using a visual interface and design techniques familiar to anyone who knows Adobe InDesign® CS3 software and print layout.
Those using older versions of GoLive on their Intel-based Macs will be happy to know that GoLive 9 is a Universal Binary and will run on any multicore Intel processor. However, it does require Mac OS X 10.4.8 or higher.
For more information, read the GoLive 9 FAQ, which answers such suspicious questions as “Why should GoLive users switch to Adobe Dreamweaver CS3?” and “I’m thinking of switching from GoLive to Dreamweaver. What kinds of resources are available?” There is also a downloadable free trial in case they don’t convince you to switch to Dreamweaver.

#1 Swedish designer says:Why is Adobe trying to make us switsh to dreamweaver when de launche a new version of GoLive? DW interface sucks so badly. I´ll hope someone can buy GoLive and keep on development in the future.

#2 Alec Smythe says:I’ve been a loyal GoLive user for years. When I saw the GoLvie 9 announcement over the weekend (intel version!), I naturally purchased the upgrade. But it turns out that you can’t upgrade GoLive if you purchased it as part of CS .. only if you purchased it standalone. So, they’re telling me not only have they removed GoLive from CS3 (which I already paid to upgrade), but now I have to throw away my entire investment in GoLive and start over. I AM FUMING. (Also on hold with technical support, who is pretty much clueless. Spent 45 minutes with a lady in India who finally gave up and turned me over to technical support, who figured out the problem, and now has me on hold while she looks for her supervisor.)
I love Adobe products, but this is just bizarre.

#3 Brian says:GoLive 9 is awful! I don’t think they test it at all because it is so buggy that its practically unusable. Almost nothing works correctly, and the program freaks out all the time. Editing text can sometimes make a whole page go bezerk, and dragging pictures can often crash it. I’ve contacted Adobe customer support and asked for a refund because nobody can ever possibly use this to get work done.

#4 Marc Klein says:Hello,
I have posted some information concerning Adobe’s newest software release on VersionTracker.
I believe it’s worth to read my postings since upgrading to Adobe GoLive 9.0 could result in severe complications for existing site projects of other GoLive end-users. Maintaining and updating your own website or websites you have created on behalf of your customers can become very complicated, time consuming and frustrating under Adobe GoLive 9.0. Quite many functions and features that were included in prior versions of GoLive such as CS1, CS2 and earlier versions seem no longer working in GoLive 9.0.
Please, take a few minutes and ready my postings and reviews on VersionTracker.
