If you haven’t heard yet, Apple and AT&T have FINALLY announced the phone and data plans that will be available to iPhone users on Friday. And true to Apple form, they have convinced AT&T to offer plans the “Apple Way.” The available plans are:
- $59.99 for 450 minutes
- $79.99 for 900 minutes
- $99.99 for 1,350 minutes
What? $59.99 is a little steep for 450 minutes? I guess I forgot to mention that each plan comes with:
- Unlimited data
- Visual voicemail
- 200 SMS text messages
- Roll-over minutes
- Unlimited mobile-to-mobile calling
Now, with data plans like that, I can buy an iPhone. And now that I’m switching carriers I guess it doesn’t matter much, but I sure hope other carriers wake up and smell the iPhone and offer similar simple plans with unlimited data plans built in.

#1 Andrew Creek says:Yeah I wasn’t even considering buying an iPhone. This changed everything for me.

#2 Ken says:I’m stunned.
Those are not bad prices. From AT&T? Am I awake?
And I read that you can activate the phone using iTunes. The manager at the local Apple store said that would save a bunch of time since they are only going to have today to practice setting them up.

#3 steve says:Those aren’t bad but the family plans suck.

#4 Kevin Zdyb says:Why do you say family plans ****? 100.00 for 1400 minutes, unlimited nights & weekends, unlimited data. I have verizon and I pay 130 for 3 phones and NO data. Does anyone know how many phones are in AT & T’s family plan? What about extra lines??

#5 Moofius says:well, that is really expensive =(
I personally use a stored-value card and pays 10 cent/minute (no idea about data) but I know a friend with an unlimited plan (sms, data, calls) for 30 dollars/month.
(I live in sweden)

#6 isalex says:me likes alot… i was going to wait but after seeing the iphone rates, i might just have to cancel my contract with sprint.

#7 Galley says:Too bad I have 9 months left on my Sprint contract. I’ve got $600 burning a hole in my pocket!

#8 Honza says:Moofius, You can’t really compare Swedish prices to US. Most of Scandinavia had dirt cheap extemely fast internet access before most of Europe even heard about broadband

#9 Brandon Eley says:I have said a couple times I thought AT&T/Cingular would release very competitive data plans since they aren’t allowed to subsidize the price of the iPhone. I currently pay $39.95/month for unlimited data and $5.95/month for text messages. The add-on AT&T plan is only $20/month and I get unlimited data AND 200 text messages. I’ll save over $300 a year just in the different. My iPhone has already almost paid for itself!

#10 Dude says:I Want one but eith 17 months left on my alltel Plan I am out of luck until the Iphone 2 Rolls around
