Download iTunes 7.4 Now

iTunes 7.4 is now available for download on Apple’s site or in Software Update.
iTunes 7.4 brings with it mainly capabilities for the new iPods that Apple announced yesterday.
From Software Update:
With iTunes 7.4, sync your favorite music and more with the new iPod nano (third generation), iPod classic, and iPod touch, plus create custom ringtones exclusively for iPhone with many of your favorite songs purchased from the iTunes Store. You can now also play purchased videos with closed captioning (when available), easily rate your favorite albums from one to five stars, and watch videos at a larger size inside the iTunes window.

You can make ringtones only from purchased tracks, eh? That’s pretty lame. I guess I’m SOL on all of the music that I’ve (legally) ripped from CDs I owned before I getting my iPod.

careful. any “unauthorized” ring tones will be deleted by iTunes 7.4

Any indication of being able to wirelessly sync the iPhone or iPod Touch with iTunes? Dear lord, that would be awesome.

I can’t even get 7.4 to download. After hitting ok to update the software it immediately says done. When you go back and check computers current version it has not updated to 7.4. Anyone have any suggestions?

Over at MacFixit they’re saying the sole purpose of 7.4 is to disable any jerry-rigged ringtones and make it so they must be purchased.
I realize this is probably due to pressure from the Muzak industry but it seems really dumb that Apple is preventing people from converting songs they’ve already purchased to ringtones. A phone is just another speaker I should be able to hear my legally purchased music out of. If anything, Apple should be making it EASIER to make ringtones from MY music.
This idiocy won’t last, I think. Until it’s all figured out, I’ll continue using GarageBand to make my ringtones.

steve..thats exactly whats happening to me aswell…i have no i dea wat to do. im starting to get really angry coz i bought it last wekk and still havnt been able to use it. have u sorted urs out yet? xx

I’ve had troubles downloading itunes also, when i first bought my ipod, i got it to install but then i had to restart my whole computer and now each time i download it, it gets to the very end of the process of downloading but then i get a message saying that some of the files could not be found and to uninstall then reinstall itunes
What is going on? I’m getting really frustrated

ok i got this new ipodnano yesterday…. and it said i had to download the new itunes 7.4 so i go to download it but a messege keep popping up saying “old version of apple software cant be removed” then i went to control panel and tried to remove the old apple software && the old itunes but it says i dont have the right file for it… im maddddd confused! i need help!

Will not download, I’ve followed all of thier so called troubleshooting instructions. You must have to have a degree in computers to give these people your money. Worst service ever.

Thanks #36 – Dude 269. I just bought an Ipod touch today and spent most of the day trying to install itunes until I read your post. I installed firefox and was able to download itunes just like that. Anyone else having trouble, just install the firefox browser. Brilliant! :)
