MSN Admits Zune is Ugly
I saw a post on the homepage of MSN today for the top design disasters of the tech world. Guess what made the list? Our friend the brown Zune. Good to see Microsoft has some humor in itself, even if it is a stretch from one of their affiliate companies.

#1 Baekeland says:Ugly, as everyone knows in this society, does not sell. Imagine pitching a TV series or movie where everyone was UGLY. Would you buy an UGLY PC? Et cetera …Pretty sells, UGLY does not. When you go out cruising for girls are you looking for UGLY girls? I don’t think so. (-:

#2 Babs says:I’m a girl and I actually like the brown Zune. I look for function and not looks. Brown is a gender neutral color. You can put nice decals or stickers on it if your really self conscious about the product.

#3 Kroyooz says:Ugly #7: iMac Flower Power and Dalmatian, http://tech.msn.com/products/slideshow.aspx?cp-documentid=5551551&imageindex=7
everyone makes design mistakes

#4 Josh Pigford says:@Kroyooz: Well of course. But you’re missing the point. This whole little “snippet” is simply pointing out that it’s pretty funny that, regardless of the fact that PC World actually wrote the article, MSN (a Microsoft Company) is display a list of the ugliest products and the very first one is a Microsoft product.
Let’s keep things in perspective here folks. This isn’t a “Microsoft sucks, Apple rulez” article at all.

#5 Michael says:Way to do research. This is not an MSN article, this is a PC World artcile as the subheader shows. If you go to PC World you will see the full article: http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,137988-page,10-c,electronics/article.html
Again, try and be more professional with your little biased blog.

#6 periqueblend says:#8 you are a complete idiot. What part of the appleblog lead you to think that this was a location for objective, unbiased, reportage?
Secondly, the actual picture makes those points clear (the posting - less so, the comment above you… more so).
I understand your rabid anti-apple fanboy hate, but unless you’re holding a very large position on MSFT stock, there is no, absolutely no reason to take a posting about a brown zune to heart.
You must have better things to worry about.
You must.

#7 Todd Baur says:Gentleman, its humor. I’m sure you’ve heard of it? Yes I made the point that an affiliate wrote the content. Regardless, MSN ran the story on their own site. That’s hilarious.
Take some time off from the blue nowhere and enjoy some sunshine.

#8 Colin says:@Baekeland
Ugly doesn’t sell? What about Ugly Betty?

#9 Colin says:As a post script to my comment, I happen to agree that Zune is probably the ugliest product on the market.
Just thought I’d point out that Ugly doesn’t always not sell.

#10 Zune Movie and Music Downloads says:Well I been using my zune form movie and music downloads. I love it You can get more movies and music downloads at ZuneExpress

#11 John says:The humor is there if you look for it. You have to remember, however, that you could probably get a similar answer from a lot of people at Microsoft. I think that this shows (if anything) that Microsoft is able to be critical of itself. Never-the-less, the irony/humor is pretty lame since it is indeed an independent article. It isn’t as if it is coming from Microsoft PR.

#12 Josh Pigford says:@Michael: I’ll assume you didn’t actually look at the picture or read our little snippet about it…because your comment just looks silly here.
Our “little biased blog” wasn’t being “biased” about anything. We were pointing out the humor that MSN was displaying an article (regardless of who wrote it) about how ugly their products is. That is called “humor”…laugh a little sometime. It’s fun.

#13 John says:oh, so it’s the BROWN zune that’s the ugly one? that’s soo racist.

#14 rhody says:Not as bad as the pink one…

#15 Patrick says:Zune is very very ugly indeed especially the brown ones. I am wondering if those MSN designers are the same who made the ugliest case mod at http://wikigiz.com/2008/01/12/ugliest-ubuntu-box-of-all-time
