iTunes Gets The Led In

itunes Gets The Led InWhile the world was clamoring for Apple to add the Beatles to its offerings on iTunes, another classic digital music holdout, Led Zeppelin, has extended its Stairway to Heaven to Apple in an exclusive box set offering announced this morning. (iTunes: Led Zeppelin)

On November 13th, Led Zeppelin will make available both a new “best of” album, titled Mothership, and a massive “The Complete Led Zeppelin” discography, with 141 tracks, for $99, a discount of roughly 40% off the standard 99 cents a track price.

If you’re a big fan of “Kashmir”, “Misty Mountain Hop” and “Whole Lotta Love”, or you have posters of Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and John Bonham on your wall, rather than trying to figure out how to get your old LPs inside your Mac, Apple now has an answer for you. You’ll have to wait a few more more weeks, but “Your Time Is Gonna Come”.

That is certainly a great price, but you can get the 10-disc “The Complete Studio Recordings” for under $70 online. Since they are on a WEA label, they will be 128Kbps with DRM.

I already have all the songs ripped from CD’s years ago. Not to mention the multiple vinyl records I own and collect. Page, Plant and Jones must be hurting for some retirement cash! Buuuut I guess my compulsive iTunes disorder will require me to download this as well. Anyone here enter the ticket lottery for next months concert?

The world might be clamoring for the addition of the Beatles to itunes, but it was screaming for Led Zeppelin, and got them. The site for Zep reunion tickets received slightly more than a BILLION hits in less than a week. There were 25-million attempts to register, with over a million that were successful. Led Zep, clearly, still have the largest fanbase in the world. If Led Zeppelin, the greatest and most beloved pure ROCK band in history, with a catalogue that is the holy grail of rock music and the standard by which all others are still measured, can now be joined by the Beatles, forever the kings of pop-rock, then the two greatest bands in history will be fully ushered into the digital age. I will buy both.
