iAlarm Wakes Me Up to iTunes
As far as getting up in the morning goes, there are all sorts of unpleasant ways to make the transition – blaring alarm clocks, AM radio interrupted by static and of course, the barnyard rooster. One more inviting way to start the day is to hear your own music from iTunes, and a shareware application, iAlarm, enables just that.
When I’m away from home and can’t use my iHome, I always use iAlarm. iAlarm lets me select the time I want to wake up and choose the iTunes playlist to play from. Then by hitting the “Set” button, we’re good to go. (See a screenshot from the developer’s site)
iAlarm means no fussing with hotel alarm clocks, setting the alarm on your cell phone, or asking for a wake-up call. It even lets my Mac sleep when I’m sleeping, and wakes us both up at the scheduled time. This even furthers the belief that I’m connected to my Mac from when I start up to when I shut down at night.
Best of all, it only costs $5.75 to order. If you opt not to buy it, iAlarm will pause in an increasing number of seconds before starting. But it’s worth the pocket change for sure.

You might want to check out Awaken (http://www.embraceware.com/software/) too, it is a very well crafted app.

Was this an advertisement or a blog post? Why not make a useful post and compare the many alarm clock apps available? For instance, a quick search of macupdate will reveal the very popular and FREE Aurora: http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/20766/aurora

Ben, there’s no ad. I blog about what I like, and if I find something I like, there’s not always a reason to run 4 or 5 programs that do the same thing. I’ve used iAlarm for 2 years or so, and it just works.

If I’m in a hotel, I’ll use their wake-up call facility. Sure it’s annoying to be woken by a phone ringing, but you’re paying for it, and if they fail to ring you (it’s happened to me before) you have bill negotiation leverage… :)

I also use alarm clock 2 (http://www.robbiehanson.com/alarmclock/) Which is free and sits in the Menubar nicely. From all apps i tried i think this is the best one.

I don’t understand why anyone would pay for iAlarm when Aurora and Alarm Clock, both mentioned above, are free. What does it do that the freeware ones don’t?

Stephanie – Good question. So far as I can tell, nothing. I just checked out Alarm Clock and it looks both minimalist and good. It’s possible I could say iAlarm had a head start in development and that’s why I originally found it, but there are a lot of smart people here, and I’m sure someone could prove me wrong!
