I have to agree with the above to posters - this is a brilliant piece of software. For me, it's completely replaced the Dock (and a good portion of Finder) with a modular (and fully customizable) interface that makes navigating my Mac much more efficient. It's perhaps a bit of a "power-user" app, but well worth the investment.

Google "Make Your Mac a Monster Machine" for a nice (somewhat older) review of DragThing and some other cool apps.

DragThing is not simply another somewhat useful piece of shareware. This is a major enhancement that quickly becomes indispensable. This article, as good as it is, barely scratches the surface of its capabilities. I've used it for years and consider it an irreplaceable must-have application.

Jason, DragThing is a bit more than "kinda neat." It's a brilliant piece of software, if you want to organization the applications, folders and documents on your hard disk and be able to access anything with a keyboard shortcut or mouse click.

There is a lot to it and you can customize just about every aspect of it. You can have pop up tabs along the sides of your desktop, for example, that pop open when you mouse over them. It's kind of like the dock, only about a million times more configurable. The price is cheap. This is very sophisticated software. The developer is very responsive. All in all, I highly recommend this software.

Jason,
If they are installed somewhere, you definitely can. The great thing is you can try it out for free. I'm still on my free trial I most likely will purchase it simply because my desktop was always cluttered before. This has made it so much easier. The less I have to click to get to my files. The happier I am. :-)
