I just wish Mac would make one already. I have been waiting years, and no, people, the Air is not good enough. I'd rather have a 9-10" screen. I know Apple can beat the other netbooks at their game, and I'd pay up to $500 or so for one rather than $400 for a comparable PC. The price point is open, the market exists... it's been time. Mac could have led this charge. It needs to at least follow it before people like become desperate enough for a netbook to buy a PC of some kind. The MSI Wind can run Leopard, as can the Dell Mini, I think... though what I really am considering is an Acer.

Technology is heading towards increased portability and mobility. The mobile phone is set to get a bit bigger and the laptop is set to get much smaller. Netbook is sort of the inbetween and this part of the mobile market is set for huge growth.

Well Charles, a week is a long time in IT journalism. Last week you were sooo hot for NetBooks and this week you're not. See, I told you, old chap.
It's not simply a matter of 'who would go back to a Ford after driving a Merc?'
It is also a matter of 'who would go back to a Merc C180 after driving an S500?'
You are growing wiser by the week Charles. I can see that. Honest!
What will you say next week to illuminate our understanding?
I am not being ironic or sarcastic. I just can't wait.
Will it be MacBook Nano? Or will it be iPhone Pro?
This is fun Charles. It just is so much FUN!
Donchafink?
I still consider you an officer and a gentleman.

"The upshot of all this is that netbooks are poised to become direct competitors of the iPhone as well as chomping away at the entry-level notebook market. So how long can the iPhone hold its own?"

Seriously? People buy iPhones because they are a step above every other cell phone on the market. The web surfing, email etc are all perks (great perks, marketable perks, but perks nonetheless), and when you boil it all down, it's a phone, and everyone who buys one needs that primary functionality. So until netbooks fit in the palm of your hand and make voice calls, they are no credible threat to the iPhone, or any smart phone for that matter.

i might be interested in a good mac notebook if the price was in the 400.00 - 600.00 range. I have a 15in MBP , but it's too heavy for long trips.
