Good write-up, Charles. As with many normal love affairs, not enough uplifting, complementing statements are made. Apple has always been, and hopefully, will always be a sweet love affair with technology. As with all relationships there are the dull and disappointing times. But they are always overshadowed. Apple has shot themselves in the foot several times but their loyal following have abandoned her.

Keep up your good reporting.

The show may have been a disappointment from the viewpoint of hardware announcement, but the refinements announced in iLife09 and iWork09 more than made up for it. Apple is bringing a lot of value to these consumers' products which will help in pulling more people to the platform. Moreover, the announcement that DRM will be removed from all the music in iTune is earth shattering and will help to placate a lot of European activists who have been fighting Apple on this subject with the help of their government.

I touch a bit on this subject and on next years subject. Wouldn't it be just a hoot if Steve Ballmer and Microsoft do the keynote in 2010?! Take a read here: http://is.gd/f25k

There's clearly a lot of hurt feelings in the Apple community right now, but from a product announcement standpoint the keynote was exceptionally dull. The new 17 inch MBP was absolutely no surprise and while iWork and iLife got some really nice enhancements, they aren't really all that deserving to fill up the majority of the keynote.

But I think this keynote reaffirmed what Apple has been saying and implying - Expos just aren't worth it any more, and they are tired of releasing products on someone else's schedule. They also gave Schiller the duty of announcing incremental updates...giving some folks hope that they'll continue to keep the really good stuff for Jobs.

Bottom line though - with or without Steve, I think this keynote would have been a disappointment. Just wait for the next Apple event (I'm guessing in like 6 months) - it'll be the glorious comeback of Jobs, and he'll have some great new stuff to show off. None of the disgruntled folk will even remember this keynote.
