Apple Releases 17″ MacBook Pro Graphics Fix
A while back we reported about issues 17-inch MacBook Pro owners were having with vertical lines and other distortion appearing on their displays. Almost three weeks later, Apple has released a fix for the issue. Officially dubbed “MacBook Pro Graphics Firmware Update 1.0,” it’s downloadable immediately via Software Update.
Apple doesn’t point any fingers regarding the source of the problem, which seemed to be the NVIDIA GeForce 9600M card that handles dedicated graphics processing. Let’s hope this fix does finally resolve the issue once and for all, because otherwise Apple might have to move on to hardware replacement and even a general recall. Let us know whether or not the fix works if you were experiencing problems.

I got a new 17-inch MacBook Pro — shipped last week, arrived yesterday — and it had this update already applied. Just FYI. Also haven’t seen any issues yet.

Just a short note. I got my new 17″ about two weeks ago, came with the latest firmware installed (gMux-Version: 1.7.10). I´m encountering the problem anyway, especially when working with photoshop (When switching the vire with the “F” key, i get parts of the sreen grainy and also the guides are grainy in fullscreen view! so i suppose that the firmware update (or the latest version) doesn´t fix the problem with all machines? I gonna contact support tomorrow :-(

I have the problem with the video card already. Firth the battery started growing and messed up my trackball, got new battery and track pad, then teh video goes out. Id rather put up with virus than buying replacement parts every couple months with Apple. Ive put WAY more money into my APPLE than my Windows laptops.
