Written on May 02, 2006 by Dan Lurie and No one has commented

Apple’s newest retail store at Flatirons Crossing Mall in Colorado will hold its grand opening at 10AM on Saturday. I plan to be there (Nick will try to be there too) and will hopefully be one of the first through the doors. Join me for a night of Mac camaraderie, geeking, and good times.
I’ve set [...]

Why iPod killers are no joke

Written on April 28, 2006 by Todd Baur and 23 people have commented

As I cruise around the Mac news web, I often see headlines that read “XYZ Corporation releases iPod killer” which is immediately followed with laughter from the Mac community about why the devices is inferior to the iPod.
I do think that it isn’t wise to immediately assume that all other music players will never be [...]

Even the mightiest tree…

Written on April 27, 2006 by Todd Baur and 1 person has commented

Says Paul Thurrott:
Having dealt with Microsoft for many years, I can say this much with certainty: The company is literally filled to the brim with some of the brightest, smartest, most insightful, and friendliest people I’ve ever met…Despite these enviable assets, Microsoft has made some mind-numbing mistakes. It (illegally, as it turns out) artificially bundled [...]

$60,000 Worth of iPods

Written on April 26, 2006 by Josh Pigford and 7 people have commented

I don’t know much about this commercial other than a reader sent it to me. Supposedly the commercial, which appears to be for some sort of Apple/Support store, uses $60,000 worth of iPods to pull of the effect. Nice.

Strong Packaging Goes Micro-soft

Written on February 27, 2006 by Nick Santilli and 7 people have commented

YouTube has a genius parody up right now. Shows the way Microsoft would redesign the beatifully simplistic and effective iPod packaging. You gotta see this thing. The best part is, it’s SPOT ON. Go there now.

Inside The Actor’s Studio, Inside iTMS Next Week

Written on February 23, 2006 by Nick Santilli and 1 person has commented

TUAW posted a tip about Bravo adding Inside the Actor’s Studio to Apple’s iTunes Music Store. Looks like it’ll drop next week.
I think this is the first time I’m actually excited about new video content being added to iTMS. If you haven’t watched Inside The Actor’s Studio before, now’s definitely the [...]

A Quick Lesson for Everyone

Written on February 16, 2006 by Nick Santilli and 5 people have commented

I’ll let you all in on a little secret. Actually, it’s not really a secret, just a point that most of us forget as our emotions cloud whatever issue we find ourselves getting riled over. You see, sometimes people write about something that has some potential validity, but ultimately they don’t believe in. [...]

Will the 6th Gen iPod be a True Video iPod?

Written on February 09, 2006 by Nick Santilli and 17 people have commented

Engadget has duct-taped a lot of little info-bites together and come up with some interesting possibilities for the future of the iPod.

3.5″ screen
virtual ‘click’ wheel on touch-sensitive screen
wifi/bluetooth/etc

It could be interesting. But my biggest hangup on the potential reality of this is the touch-screen click wheel. If it’s a video iPod, [...]

Siren Song of MWSF

Written on January 08, 2006 by Nick Santilli and 2 people have commented

Damien Barrett over at TUAW makes the perfect point about the MWSF phenomenon - he actually considered risked skipping his twin brother’s wedding to go to Mac World San Fransisco next week!
But that’s how Mac users are. Every year we get excited to hear all the insanely great stuff that Cupertino has in store [...]

Remember, “Redmond, start your photocopiers”

Written on January 07, 2006 by Nick Santilli and 6 people have commented

Looks like Redmond took Cupertino’s suggestion to heart. Course we all knew that already.
Airbag points to a couple awesome movies. They pair CES Vista announcements with the current OS X functionality. Fun to watch. It’ll be great to see what Leopard has up its sleeves next week, as opposed [...]

Apple in 2005

Written on December 19, 2005 by Nick Santilli and No one has commented

CNet’s News.com has a nice rundown of all Apple’s moves in 2005. Nice timeline of events. It’s pretty impressive to see all that they did in a single year. Here’s to ‘06!

Tale of the Apple Key

Written on December 04, 2005 by Nick Santilli and 2 people have commented

Ever wonder where the symbol for the Apple (Command) key came from? Well, neither did I. But someone did, and the story was told. Seems Jobs was upset about something. Image that… Thank heavens for perfectionism though, eh?
Nod to Digg for this one.

SNL skit: Steve Jobs and the “iPod invisa”

Written on November 19, 2005 by Jason Terhorst and 12 people have commented

Just a few moments ago, there was a sketch on NBC’s Saturday Night Live, where the anchors on Weekend Update invited Steve Jobs (played by Fred Armisen) to show the newest stuff for the Christmas shopping season.
He talked about the new iPod…. and Tina and Amy asked him about the nano and video iPod. “No”, [...]

Evening at Adler Video Released

Written on November 15, 2005 by Dan Lurie and 7 people have commented

At the beginning of October, DrunkenBatman organized a round-table of the movers-and-shakers of independent Mac software developers. Discussion ranged from the state of Cocoa to weather software patents are a good idea. A video of the discussion has finally been released, and it is certainly worth the wait. See Alcor of QuickSilver pontificate on his [...]

Too Far Gone

Written on November 08, 2005 by Nick Santilli and 10 people have commented

I just realized that I am WAY too far gone as a Mac user.
If you too can immediately identify what this tattoo stands for, you’re in the same boat with me.
Of course the individual sporting that tattoo is in a different class all together!!
By the way, Apple+Shift+3 is the shortcut to take a full screen [...]

We all know that means something big.
Sounds like it’s most likely dual core powermacs… Hope there’s a powerbook announcement in there too. Mine’s getting long in the tooth (for my likes anyway). Anyone wanna buy a 17″ powerbook…?
Hold your breath folks…
HERE’S THE LATEST:

- Upgrades to the 15″ and 17″ PowerBooks.
- 15″ [...]

OS X Reproduced in Flash

Written on October 07, 2005 by Dan Lurie and 5 people have commented

I came across this site via Digg. In concept, it is very similar to FlyakiteOSX that Josh featured a while back. However, iFizzle is a bit more visually, if not technically, appealing. The opening of the apps, behavior of the dock, and even the way iPhoto displays photos is very authentic and fluid. Check it [...]

A Brief History Of Microsoft

Written on October 05, 2005 by Dan Lurie and No one has commented

Today’s episode of MacTV is absolutely brilliant. The episode, narrated by Apple’s text-to-speech technology, follows Microsoft’s progression as a company, and focuses on Microsoft executives. Of course, all of this is from the perspective of a Mac zealot, and many a jab is taken. I could not help myself from actually laughing out loud, something [...]

Just an Observation

Written on September 21, 2005 by Nick Santilli and 2 people have commented

I was checking my feeds and saw something in the “Enjoying” list on WhatDoIKnow.org that got me thinking a little bit. The gear-turner went like this:
“Well how about that. Microsoft has released a web developer toolbar for IE.”
Isn’t that kind of sad? I mean, Firefox came out, and passionate users hit the code [...]

Future of Apple Round Table

Written on September 13, 2005 by Dan Lurie and No one has commented

SiliconValley.com is presenting a week-long round-table discussion on the future of Apple. Some of the greatest minds in the Apple world are present (albeit virtually) to discuss what the switch to Intel means for our favorite company. Guest include Michael Gartenberg of Jupiter Research, Andy Hertzfeld; one of the original Apple developers, Leander Kahney; the [...]
