Written on September 19, 2008 by Josh Pigford and 7 people have commented

Today Apple released a statement recalling all iPhone 3G ultracompact USB power adapters.
It seems a small percentage of the adapters have a predisposition for the metal prongs to snap off in the electrical socket, potentially having some unfortunate side effects.
The ultracompact USB adapters were only sold with the iPhone 3G in the following countries: [...]

Since the launch of the original iPhone back in June 2007, the only place you could (legally) get an iPhone in the US was either at one of Apple’s 197 retail stores or one of AT&T’s 1,800+ retail stores.

On Farting iPhones: Where should Apple draw the line?

Written on September 05, 2008 by Josh Pigford and 20 people have commented

Since the App Store’s launch back in June, I’ve had mixed feelings about the overall level of quality of the applications for sale. Knowing that Apple has control over what does and does not make it in to the store initially had me with the mindset that they should indeed do a bit of quality [...]

Don’t Trust That Passcode

Written on August 27, 2008 by Bob Rudis and 10 people have commented

Ryan Naraine reported over at ZDNet Zero Day on a new iPhone vulnerability which lets anyone have full access to the majority of iPhone functionality despite your clever 4-digit passcode lock.
As mentioned by “greenmymac” and covered by The Register, full access to contacts (and, hence, browser, e-mail, SMS…) is as simple as a press of [...]

iPod + Game Boy = iBoy

Written on August 03, 2008 by Josh Pigford and 2 people have commented

Growing up, my Game Boy was probably one of my favorite gaming devices. I have every single add-on you could get for that thing to the point where it was about the size of a volleyball…completely negating the point of a small handheld device. All of those add-ons included flip out speakers, a light, [...]

New MacBook Rumors

Written on July 29, 2008 by Jethro Jones and 18 people have commented

Last week, during the Q2 financial call for Apple, Peter Oppenheimer does what Apple does best: he stirred the pot. It may seem to the untrained eye that Apple’s less-than-stellar four-product launch was detrimental to the company, but how quickly we forget. Just a few short words left all the bad feelings behind and kept [...]

Love the Simpsons? Got Money?

Written on July 23, 2008 by Jethro Jones and 4 people have commented

D’oh! I just bought an iPod Touch and didn’t realize that I could get any iPod for only $50-$100 more than retail and have some sweet, sweet laser engraved Simpsons characters all over it. The laser engraving on the back of the iPods comes in three flavors: Bart SK8, Homer Tested, and Homer D’oh, shown [...]

Apple to Psystar: It is Over.

Written on July 16, 2008 by Jethro Jones and 9 people have commented

Now that Apple has gotten over the stress of selling the iPhone 3G, they have turned their attention to other matters that are not as pressing as the activation fiasco.
Apple sued Psystar on July 3rd (when everyone was too busy worrying about the iPhone launch) and asked that all the computers that Psystar [...]

Apple sells over 1 million iPhone 3Gs; Over 10 million downloads from App store

Written on July 16, 2008 by Opal Tribble and 5 people have commented

Apple has reason to celebrate. The company reported that it had sold over one million iPhone 3G’s by Sunday.
“iPhone 3G had a stunning opening weekend,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “It took 74 days to sell the first one million original iPhones, so the new iPhone 3G is clearly off to a great start around [...]

Why this year’s iPhone launch was very un-Apple

Written on July 14, 2008 by Brandon Eley and 40 people have commented

I remember standing in line last year for the iPhone. It was a momentous occasion. There was excitement in the air and people just having a great time waiting for 6 PM when the iPhone went on sale. People were camped out in lawn chairs and owners of shops came out to see what the [...]

Surprises on July 11th

Written on July 09, 2008 by Jethro Jones and 6 people have commented

With the launch of the iPhone 3G, the App store, and hopefully MobileMe, coming this Friday, many people are getting excited. We would be remiss if we didn’t at least speculate about the surprises that might come when you open that 3G iPhone box.
One of the biggest surprises could come to developers who are [...]

The REAL Scoop on iPhone 3G Pricing

Written on July 08, 2008 by Brandon Eley and 8 people have commented

After reading some of posts around the ‘Net about iPhone 3G pricing, I started to get worried. As a current iPhone owner and AT&T customer, I was really excited about the price drop. Then I heard from multiple sources that current AT&T customers who are not qualified for an upgrade would have to pay $399 [...]

Apple Says “No Thanks” to Intel

Written on July 02, 2008 by Jethro Jones and 2 people have commented

Although the speculation was rampant when Apple bought PA Semi earlier this year, Intel made it official: there will not be Intel processors in the iPhone.
Intel is preparing more x86 versions of their processors for mobile devices, and “Apple chose not to take that road map at their next generation of platform…That was disappointing,” [...]

Securely Delete Data on iPhone 2.0

Written on June 30, 2008 by Jethro Jones and 1 person has commented

I have always been nervous about syncing my contacts and pictures to my iPod because they would be accessible by other people if I ever lost it, or it was stolen. I also have never sold a used iPod for the same reason.
That is why I was excited when Steve Jobs announced at the [...]

To Pro or not to Pro?

Written on June 24, 2008 by Jethro Jones and 51 people have commented

At my day job, we are getting new computers for everyone, and I weaseled my way into a position to have some input on the process. I have heard nothing but rave reviews of MacBook Pros and I was sure this would be my chance to get one. There are other people in the company [...]

Apple Tech Support Trials Begets Better iPhone Headset + License Woes

Written on June 23, 2008 by Bob Rudis and 6 people have commented

It’s been quite a while since my last post due in large part to my dead MacBook Pro. Perhaps, unstable would have been a better choice of words as my trusty 15″ developed a very nasty power issue where it would just randomly power off without warning. The instability made it impossible to do any [...]

Sega-Hasbro: Crank up your iPod with Ampbot the dancing Robot

Imagine having a robot that carries your iPod, dances, and chases you around the house? Almost sounds as though you’ve stepped into the future where robots rule. If you like gadgets check out the one Sega-Hasbro has created. It’s an A.M.P (Automated Music Personality) or Ampbot. In other words it’s a musical robot.
The Ampbot was [...]
