Three Weeks with Delicious Library 2

Written on July 03, 2008 by Jethro Jones and 14 people have commented

About three weeks ago, I finally upgraded to Delicious Library 2. It is definitely a slick program. The greatest addition for me was the ability to add my gadgets to my library. It just makes sense to be able to add all my electronic gear.
You can add items in nine categories: books, movies, music, software, [...]

Taking The Plunge: Jungle Disk 2

Written on June 30, 2008 by Jason Guthrie and 9 people have commented

I just plugged in my 4th external hard drive today - the 1TB My Book Essential Edition. That brings my total external storage capacity to about 2TB - which is pretty good considering most people don’t have ANY sort of backup solution. But as I was plugging in the new drive I came [...]

OS X : Unplugged(.prefpane)

Written on June 27, 2008 by Bob Rudis and 12 people have commented

I came across a comment about a small but useful utility I had not heard of before called Unplugged. This utility (in the form of a System Preferences panel) from Briksoftware watches for events related to your power cord being plugged or unplugged and notifies you via Growl (if Growl is not installed, the application [...]

With Sequence, you can very easily capture and save an image or a movie of your screen to your computer’s clipboard or to a file in practically any image format (bmp, pict, gif, jpg, png, tiff & pdf).

Review: Replug

Written on June 24, 2008 by Jason Terhorst and 4 people have commented

I recently got my hands on an interesting device, the Replug. The design of the Replug is meant to work much like a MagSafe connector does - give it a pull, and it pops out safely. But this is a headphone adapter. If you’ve ever had your computer yanked to the floor by a [...]

Colin McRae Rally Mac

Written on June 04, 2008 by Jason Terhorst and 8 people have commented

I’ve been hooked on Mario Kart Wii since it was released, but there’s been a disconnect for me. Like “Grand Theft Auto”, it doesn’t carry over the level of realism that I experience when I’m out driving a real car - whether it be to run errands, or to race in the Indy 500. [...]

Firefox 3RC1 Released

Written on May 23, 2008 by Stephanie Guertin and 10 people have commented

After all the months of waiting, it’s finally here!
No, I don’t mean the rumored Apple tablet, sorry. Nor, more realistically, am I talking about the spec bump to the Macbook line. The first release candidate for Firefox 3 dropped yesterday, and a shiny new thing it is. (I can hear you now: [...]

Blogo Gets Social, Also Talks To Strangers

Written on May 21, 2008 by Bob Rudis and 5 people have commented

Brainjiuce has updated its weblog editor Blogo to version 1.1. This update puts it closer on par to MarsEdit (my blogging tool of choice) by adding direct text formatting commands and better file format support (i.e. for posting graphics). The user interface has also been overhauled:

A neat Blogo feature it the ability to import the [...]

Book Review: Cocoa® Programming for Mac® OS X, Third Edition

Written on May 20, 2008 by Bob Rudis and 6 people have commented

Addison Wesley Professional started shipping the Third Edition of Cocoa Programming for Mac OS X by Aaron Hillegass this month. Hillegass’ book is considered my most to be the de-facto intro-to-OS X programming text. I own (and have now recycled) the first edition of the book and have gone through the majority of the Third [...]

Scrivener - A Writer’s Paradise

Written on May 19, 2008 by Jethro Jones and 11 people have commented

I first heard about Scrivener on MacBreak Weekly a couple days ago, and although it has been around for a while, this was the first time that I heard about it. It was only mentioned as “I only use Scrivener now” when they were talking about iWork and Word 2008. I thought I would give [...]

OpenOffice.org 3.0 Beta Rocks Aqua On Intel

Written on May 12, 2008 by Bob Rudis and 8 people have commented

VMware was not the only pre-release surprise this past week as OpenOffice.org launched a beta of their new 3.0 office productivity suite complete with native OS X GUI support (no need to run X11 anymore!) along with a sizable list of other enhancements and bug fixes. TAB put the suite through a series [...]

VMware Fusion 2 Beta Raises The Virtualization Bar

Written on May 09, 2008 by Bob Rudis and 5 people have commented

VMware announced the latest beta of their flagship Mac virtualization tool on Tuesday and I’ve managed to put it through a number of paces with mostly positive results. All tests were performed on a 2.4GHz MacBook Pro with 4GB RAM running OS X 10.5.2. The VM was my Windows XP SP2 Boot Camp partition.

I know, you (or, if you are a mom, someone) have procrastinated another Mother’s Day and you only have time to run to the store, or buy some software online. Well, here it is: the people at Chronos know your pain, and they just updated their iScrapbook software, ready for you to purchase (or at [...]

Many schools foot the bill to get good Macs into their teachers’ hands. Mac developers know this and there are many different educational apps that teachers and students can use to make learning better. Pass this review along to your educator friends and let them taste a little bit of the good life.

Rivet Stereo Headset for iPhone

Written on May 04, 2008 by Brandon Eley and 2 people have commented

I have been looking for some decent headphones for my iPhone for a while (I’m not a big fan of the white earbuds). I finally found the Rivet Stereo Headset made specially for iPhone and couldn’t resist.
First Impressions
My first impression after taking the headphones out of the package was “huh?” They are made to be [...]

Read RSS Newsfeeds In Style With “Times”

Written on April 27, 2008 by Bob Rudis and 55 people have commented

From Google Reader to NetNewsWire to Vienna, RSS readers have become somewhat of a commodity, with all of them providing a similar feature set and the same approach to getting your fill of feeds. Then, along comes Dustin MacDonald who – not content with the status quo – cooks up a little application called, simply [...]

Crucial Introduces Memory/System Scanner For Macs

Written on April 19, 2008 by Bob Rudis and 6 people have commented

PC users have long been able to avoid retail prices and save some money on RAM by hitting Crucial’s PC System Scanner site to analyze their current configuration and have the program give upgrade options (then go to deal sites and really save some $$). Mac users can now do the same thanks to the [...]

Evernote = Ubiquitous Personal Memory

Written on April 03, 2008 by Bob Rudis and 97 people have commented

Evernote, which was once a Windows-only, highly-complex clippings database, has re-invented itself with a new 3.0 beta release that combines a feature-smart client for OS X (& Windows) with creative and handy web & mobile functionality to ensure you never forget anything. I managed to wait in the beta line long enough to get an [...]

Budget, Organize and De-clutter Your Life With ReceiptWallet

Written on March 26, 2008 by Bob Rudis and 8 people have commented

If your daily existence is anything like mine you collect a decent number of items that need to – or at least should be – filed, stored or organized in some way. Whether they be downloaded PDF documents or saved purchase records, grocery store receipts or just important physical papers these items are probably either [...]

Aspyr’s d20 Hits The Mark With Neverwinter Nights 2 Port to OS X

Written on March 25, 2008 by Bob Rudis and 2 people have commented

With the move to Intel Macs, Apple set the stage for increased gaming opportunities and went so far as to promise OS X users more titles to choose from since they are “working closely” with the premier development houses to ensure OS X is considered a first-run target operating system. While some gaming companies have [...]
