It's been a long time since I wasn't interested in gadgets; in fact, I'm not sure there was ever such a time. When I was a kid I loved anything with LEDs, buttons and controllers. If it plugged into the wall I was interested. I remember spending hours playing with everything form VCRs to tape decks to car stereos. At around 10 years old I made a fortune charging £5 a time for programming radio stations for cars and alarm clocks around the local neighbourhood, something I likely couldn't do now for love nor money.
Somehow during my transition from 80's child to internet user I lost the gadget love in many ways. I always had a passion for them, but I rarely or never followed through. Due to my job being so intensly focused on a tiny range of products (really I only need to know about Apple notebooks and the rest just follows) I have been cramming my brain with lots of not so useful information for the last few years. Now it's time for a change, and I don't know how to do that.
I haven't really followed consumer electronics closely then for years, and as such I am simply stunned by the low pricing of my new
Dell display, the USB abilities of the
Flip Mino and recently the
ugliness but usefulness of tablets on the market today. Over the last few days I have been checking out the likes of
Engadget (which I semi-followed previously) and
Cnet (who I have heard not so great things about, though I like
BOL). With my lack of recent CE experience and a list of review sites well past their use by date I am turning it over to you guys.
What sites do you recommend for your gadget reviews, news and general updates? (Oh, and bonus points for regular video reviews.)
