There is nothing better than getting real people to answer from first hand experience. That said, I have never had a BlackBerry. Google is also very useful. For this I would suggest a term such as "blackberry mac sync".

Natively I don't believe BlackBerry's are supported by Mac OS X, but that's not to say they aren't supported by other applications. How do you want to sync and with what applications? There are a bunch of great freeware/shareware/cheapware applications for this. Mac land is filled with these kinds of small, cheap/free applications and they are usually great. Windows users are put off by the price thinking it's crapware, but it's generally really, really good.

Have you thought about backing up? That should be a question from a business critical switcher without a doubt (and something we are very good with).

See here. The company that makes Blackberries (sp?) has a deal where you get a free copy of the software if you own a Blackberry.

There are lots of features:

Looking closely at the site, they do support the 8700c you mentioned in the other thread.

Perhaps my comment was better added to the other thread, but still it's relevant. Syncing calendars, contacts and so on to a phone is kind of backup, but what about everything else? If it's a business critical machine it should be backed up regularly, likely daily. Having a bootable backup is key to staying up and running in a business. Here is how I would approach the situation:

Get a LaCie Porsche Mobile drive to save your backup to. This drive is small, light, durable and will work well on the road as it needs no power supply. Get the FireWire version as this will allow you to easily boot to this drive should your internal drive fail. Even better, should your MacBook Pro get broken (baggage handlers?!?) then you can plug this drive into any other Intel based Mac and boot to it, effectively continuing from where you left off without knowing you are on a different machine.

How do you create such a wonderful backup you ask? SuperDuper! from Shirt-Pocket software. It's small, easy to use and works every time. May not sound like a software product a business should use, may not look like a price point a business would consider but it works, and you should. Don't worry about that and if you do for some reason require support then the developers are on hand to help you out; they joy of small software companies.

Check out Missing Sync. I used it when I had a Palm Treo but they have Windows Mobile and Blackberry versions as well.

The Palm version worked flawlessly at syncing all my contacts, calendar, photos, songs, files, to-dos, and more. It could literally sync anything.

Research In Motion (RIM) doesn't support Mac - they suggest PocketMac as the recommended solution. Here is a KB article describing the process:

BlackBerry Search Results

PocketMac and RIM are in cahoots, probably to save on development/support costs.

I have a blackberry Pearl... and macbook

I am currently using Pocketmac Sync...

no problems whatsoever!..
UPDATE

Ok, so now suddenly it seems that my blackberry pearl and macbok don't want to play with each other anymore.

When I connect up the two, the mac simply ignores it. No drive is shown.
This is highly annoying as I am always putting on new music, videos, etc...

I am completely at a loss as to which step to take now.

My blackberry has suddenly become a simple telephone. My diary (sorry calendar), favourites, music, videos, photos, everything, simply will not sync. It is worthless.

Has anyone else had this particular problem, and did they somehow fix it?

Hoping to have a positive reply...

Hey dude be careful.

You might get hit with a high bill at the end of the month (even if you do have an unlimited plan)

Using the BB as a modem is NOT agreed in any plans.
