So here we go, I couldn't find this via google, but I'm trying to figure out a way that the music I've purchased via CD's for the 15 years before iTunes came out can be recognized as iTunes music and then I only have to pay 99¢ for those ringtones. I have over 500 cds that I purchased before the digital world, and I don't want to pay $1.98 for a ringtone, that I already have the CD for.
Has anyone found a workaround for this issue, it seems that apple should accept your whole library as ringtone enabled, anyone agree? |

This has been a huge gripe, yes. Unfortunately, if you have the latest iPhone software, there is no way to do this. There were several programs, and all have been broken by Apple.
I think that Apple was in the right shutting down the third-party apps, but I don't think they ever should have done the ringtones the way they did in the first place. Some are arguing that it was contractual with AT&T, but it's still ridiculous. If you aren't updated, try MakeiPhoneRingtone or iToner

yeah, there are a number of options if you aren't sporting 1.1.1. I have used iToner with success.
Apple seems to rear its comercial side with every turn. I myself have my phone on vibrate most of the time so I am not upset about it, but I would rather have interesting ringtones of my own making rather than music and it sucks that I can't have that if I keep my phone up to date.

I know, I agree with both of you. It would be nice to create your own ringtone in garageband, but I really think it sucks that I have over 7000 songs that I have bought, just not all through iTunes. So only 400 songs of my 7000 songs are available to me for ringtones, that should not be the case!

Unless you need to buy music on your iPhone, just downgrade to 1.0.2 and set your phone free! It's what I did and so now I get my own ringtones and podcast downloads on my phone and custom ui and im and life is beautiful in spite of Apple. =D

It's something to consider for sure, and the WiFi music store is only useful if you are coffee addict. As soon as they implement digital radio, and the ability to buy music you listen to on the radio, then I will be utilizing the WiFi Music store everyday
