Interesting thing I discovered playing with a friends iPhone this weekend is that the iPhone specific websites for Wikipedia and Youtube aren't blocked by the Chinese Firewall. Not sure if it is an oversight by the authorities or if it's technologically more difficult, or if it's just small potatoes and not worth monitoring.

That's actually very interesting! I'm doing a research paper right now about state sovereignty and the proliferation of the internet, and China is a great example of states really exerting their sovereignty over the people. This, on the other hand, is a hole in my argument

I think it's more of an oversight by the Chinese government than anything. I'm sure they'll realize it once there is an official chinese iPhone carrier.

All the recent news about China and T*bet should add more fuel to your research paper. There are some really interesting things going on in that neighborhood now, kicking out all foreigners, closing borders, shutting down cell phone networks, etc

Shanghaiist: News, Music, Nightlife, Restaurants, Events and More in Shanghai, China has great coverage on the issue if you are interested.

@Chris - thanks for that link! Yeah, I used a lot of recent (and not so recent) examples when speaking of China and internet censorship. But it's done now - due this morning! I'm just thankful for that
