Well, first clarify what you mean by "doesn't appear on your screen"? Do you mean it's no longer located in your Dock? Or do you mean that Dashboard doesn't activate anymore?
If it's just not in the Dock, you can go to Applications and just drag it back, but it seems you've already done this. If it's not appearing when you press the normal key (F12), go into System Preferences, click on "Expose and Spaces", and in the section that is titled "Dashboard", check that the keyboard shortcut is the same as the one you're pressing. Hope this helps!

Thanks Yuicchi. I'm able to access the dashboard via the function key (f12). I also dragged the icon over from applications. Everthing works, though the dashboard icon differs in size from the others - it also has its identifier("Dashboard") which was in applications. Everything works - thanks for the help!

I just bought my computer and my dashboard isn't functioning correctly. I can't drag the widgets from the bottom onto the dashboard. If I try they appear and then it sends me back to my finder. WHAT am I don't wrong. All instructions I've read say it should it is as simple as drag and drop--but that isn't working.

@Kathleen - Welcome to the TAB forums! Hope you enjoy your stay!
So, after launching Dashboard and clicking the plus (+) icon, any attempts to drag and drop new widgets kick you out of dashbboard? This seems to be a problem with Parental Controls (and other things, I believe). Check out this thread in the Apple Discussion boards for possible fixes. Tell us if any of those suggestions worked! Hope this helps!
