I was moving all of my music onto my new MacBook, and decided to play a song. I was prompted with a notice that stated that I must authorize my account. I entered my iTunes account information, but then it said it had already been authorised on the maximum 5 accounts.
I went into the setting for my iTunes account and clicked on "Deauthorise all". After a little bit, a window came up that said that you can only deauthorise one time a year and I must wait another 2 months until I am able to deathorise all. So now I am unable to listen to my DRM-ed iTunes music on my new Mac. What was Apple thinking? I'm glad I'm DRM-free now.

What happened that you needed to deauthorize all twice? And do you have access to one of the 5 you are not using, you can deauthorize just one computer. DRM-free, oh how nice it would be.

Give Apple a call. I've heard plenty of stories of Apple being nice and deauthorizing more than once a year if you call and explain why. From what I heard, they tend to be especially nice when you just bought a new mac.
Good luck.

I've heard the same stories as BBB. Give 'em a shout out and tell them your situation - they'll probably be glad to give you your yearly de-authorization.
How are you enjoying your new MacBook so far?

DRM-free all the way, over here! Authorizations my rear end; it's garbage like that that makes me so stubborn. :/

I kind of wish there were more options for DRM free music in Canada. Right now, the only no-hassle digital download service I know of is iTunes Plus. Call me lazy, but I just love hitting the purchase button and know all of the filing and adding to the library is done for me. I just wish services like Amazon MP3 would hurry up in rolling out to Canada.
Speaking of Amazon, when are they going to bring Amazon.ca out of the stone ages?!

Thanks for the tips guys, I'll have to give Apple a call sometime soon.
And yes, I agree with you all about going DRM-free. Amazon MP3 has worked out great for me. I'm sure we'll see it spread to more countries soon. @Yuiichi I am just loving the new MacBook! I haven't had much time with it, but it's just been great so far. I'm really glad I went with black; the matte finish is pure bliss.

Things to consider:
1. It's not an Apple thing, it's a record label thing. 2. Apple is generally quite helpful in these situations. 3. Frankly, it's the users fault. If you forget to de-authorize your own devices then who else it so blame? 4. This is very common with software, but no one &@#%&@#%&@#%&@#%&@#%es about that nearly as much. |
