HI, new to itunes and here, trying to get to grips with itunes and to get my cd collection onto the PC. Using itunes I can import all the tracks, according to itunes playlists that ive created all the data is there, artist, title, time, even cd name etc looks brilliant BUT in the dir where i keep them there is only the title of the track, no other data. When I back up onto a CD all I get is title nothing else. What I really want to do is export all my songs onto SD memory cards but again all I get is song title not artists. Please does anyone out there know how I can get both title and artist uploaded onto pc and / or save the data that itunes has picked up over to sd cards or cd.

many thanks for the help, sorry its me being thick and an old git trying to understand modern technology, if i understand your reply correct are u saying that even though ive put 100 tracks onto a SD card and all it shows is the song title, once its in a SD card reader the artist and title would be displayed ? how do i check that they are properly tagged? the prob i have is i must have the artist and title, itunes shows it and i can even export the play list to the printer (brillient) but i cant export to a sd reader as itunes wont let me so i just drag and drop from the dir that itunes hold the tracks onto the sd dir and both dir's just show the title. thanks again for your help its much appreciated.

As phil said, it will not be in the file name, but it's embedded in the file. The filenames don't matter to iTunes, they're just there for organization. All the data is in the metadata.

Yesterday I was pulling what ever hair i have left out of my head thinking i have saved 100 song titles to an SD card with no artists listed, basically waisting days and days of work (a itune newbie). But now with your advice I think im cracking it, in so far as i understand, yes I have 100 song titles listed on my SD card, BUT as they are tagged correctly (according to itunes they are) then once in a sd player they will show the artists. I cannot thank everyone who has helped enough, ty so much for all your advice and support.
