There was a similar (now 20 month old) thread with a pole about which RSS feeds everyone used. But "Bloglines" was not one of the choices. And while a couple of people said they had used it (in 2006), no one had reviewed it. Now with all most two years passed, does anyone use "Bloglines"? If so, do you like it, or prefer something else over it. I like the idea that using different computers as I do will not have you re-reading the same feeds as you swap around. Any different recommendations for similar, traveler friendly, blog tracking? I was checking out the site, but am hesitant to register and give my e-mail out to another sender if it is going to be a poor implementation of what they claim to do. Or am I missing a new capability buried deep in "Mobile Me" that may allow feeds followed on my MBP to be reflected on my Desktop. I use nothing now. I simply waste my time by bouncing around different sites, like this one - my Fav of course
to see what new items have been posted. (I know - get with the times).

Unfortunately, I haven't tried out Bloglines, so I can't comment there.
As for traveler friendly RSS aggrigators, here are two suggestions: Google Reader and NetNewsWire. Google Reader is web based, like Bloglines, but by Google. Since it's web based, anything you do on one computer will be reflected on another computer when you log into your account. If you want a local client, NetNewsWire is the way to go. Besides having all the benefits of actually being on your machine (instead of just the web), it syncs with the NewsGator service to automagically tell any other NewsGator client what you've already read, what you've flagged, etc. Have you tried either yet?

Thanks Yuiichi, I'm going to check NetNewsWire out. I think I prefer the idea a local client and having the software on my Mac.

Loving NetNewsWire! Very nice implementation. Thanks for the recommendation Yuiichi! Now I only wonder why I waited so long to use an aggregator. This really runs, looks and interfaces like it was made by Apple. And I really like how it syncs up with your other computers. I would highly recommend to anyone else on the fence as to which software to use, or if they are wondering if an aggregator is useful or easy to use.

Indeed NNW is a very nice application and service. I like how you can use it as extensively as you like, either to serve as a hub for feeds or as the browser to view them in as well. I have mine setup to work like NewsFire in the sense that I don't use it's built in browser. It would be nice if it had smart feeds in it though.
I'm interested to know how the iPhone version works alongside the desktop ones? |

Yeah, I like the built-in browser option, and find I have been using it (in my brief 20 hours with the software). I am going to try out the iPhone App when I get home off my current trip and see how it works. I'm not so smart, on the smart feed. What is the benefit of that? Does it just do stuff to track your personal posts, or is it about learning more specific prefs within a particular feed you use (for example, I concentrate on aviation industry related stories within my news feeds)?

Smart feeds in NewsFire (they aren't in NNW to my knowledge) are like smart folders in mail. They behave like a normal smart feed but they are a conglomerate of feeds depending on how you set it up. It'd be great if there was a feed reader which tracked the posts you read in full, ones you arrow out to the browser etc so that it selected and served up to you things of interest.

I use Bloglines and have been using it for a very long time. I just love the simplicity of it. I've tried their beta version as well (which seems to be a lot more like Google Reader), and I'm not really a fan of that...They just seem too bloated when all I want to do is quickly read some feeds.

I haven't tried Bloglines. I'm a big NNW fan.
