I have a lot of AVI's from my digital camera that I would like to see in my iTunes Library and access from Front Row. From what I can tell though, iTunes does not like the AVI format, even when it is in the iTunes library folder.

Is there a way to convert the AVI to the MPEG4 format?

iSquint is probably the simplest drag and drop, brainless, iPod conversion. But I personally prefer MPEG Streamclip for more options in conversion, it will also allow you to trim video clips without converting and loose quality.

I'll second iSquint. I used it to convert a number of .flv's I had for my iPod, and it worked fast and beautifully. I know it doesn't have a plethora of options, but it's great for simple, fast conversions. The option to convert into h264 is definitely a plus too!

If you want some more conversion options--as in suff you can convert to, try iSquint's big brother, VisualHub, which obviously is not free. iSquint can convert from everything VisualHub can, but iSquint can only convert to mp4 I believe.

So I downloaded and played with iSquint last night but for some reason I kept getting a codec error when converting.

I can play the AVIs I have in Quicktime (got the Codec for that) but iSquint kept throwing an error. Any ideas?

Are you using the actual DivX codec or are you using something like Perian?

I'm guessing that's why, download the DivX one and see how that works.

I have successfully used an application from this source:

FREE Video, DVD and Audio Software: Free Studio Manager

Good luck!

i have Visualhub, its awesome!

on a side note, what do you guys do when you get those unwanted videos that are on the side, so when you play them they're sideways because the camera was turned when the video was made... usually just need to be rotated 90degrees one way, any ideas?
