Well, I figure if I'll be asking (begging :P ) for them for christmas I feel like i should at least know whats the best. And who better to ask than you all?

I know slim to none about what actually represents quality in the area of noise cancelling headphones, aside from the existence of brands like Shure and Bose. so any tips, experiences, or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

well I think Bose is generally the answer here.

While they're not NOISE cancelling, but more noise isolation type, the etymotic er-6i are great. they're in ear, which gets most of the outside sound out. they come with 2 different in ear adapters. On a plane, I can easily hear what I'm listening to, and none of the airplane noise. love em.

I have used the Shure E2C's for nearly a year now and at the moment they are back at the Shure factory for warranty repair.

Not sure if you want in-ear phones or cuffs. The E2C's aren't bad, they are extremely good at blocking out the outisde noise, but they could be a little uncomfortable. Of course there is the fact that they are broken at the moment which royally sucks. The insulation around the wires that wrap around the ears became cracked and the wires started to show, so had to send em back.

I've yet to see if they will actually repair them in a quick and decent manner, maybe I'll post an update when I get em back.

I have to say bose doesnt make the best headphones. They actually have cheap speakers in them but they knid of modify them to sound much better. I love sennheiser headphones. All the recording studios use them theyre site http://www.sennheiserusa.com/newsite/ Has some cool noise cancelling ones

Head to Playlistmag.com. They have great reviews of headphones of all sorts, ipod speaker systems etc etc. Its a spin off of macworld.com.

I couldn't afford decent noise cancellers so got some ear canal phones which tend to block out heaps of noise anyway. Cant believe that I took so long to replace the ipod ones.....

Personally, I just want some nice earbuds that won't fall out of my ears constantly and that won't get super tangled up when I put it in my pocket.

ear canal ones are good for not falling out of your ears but have tiny little buds so tend to get very tangled, all the bloody time

Just talked to my parents today and they said that I've got a brand new pair of headphones sitting at home waiting for me. Shure replaced them without any problems and their turn around time was pretty fast. Just sucks they wouldn't ship outside the USA so I've got to wait till I visit my parents at Christmas time to retrieve them.

I used Sony's fontopia for a while, and I was very satisfied with them, until they break one day...
So I turned back to my white earbuds :P
