I am 100% sure that my music is still there - my iPod is a testiment. It's been on there since the moment I started collecting music, and it hasn't moved yet. Well, thats not true. I almost lost it all when the drive got corrupted. But all is well now! And what am I trusting the Pacific Northwest guys for?

Depending on the size of the music collection, it might not fit on the MacBook's HD.

My music collection is 15 GB, so it's not the biggest around, but it's not small by any means. My Macbook only has an 80GB harddrive, and my PC has a 250 GB drive, so it's kind of obvious why I'd rather leave it on there. I enable iTunes sharing, so whenever I do want it on the Macbook, it's available.
Also, since my Macbook has those little tinny speakers (I haven't invested in any yet), I don't get any benefit of sound quality. My PC has pretty nice Altec Lansing speakers, so the sound quality is alright. All-in-all, it would be more of a con to me to move all of the music.

Thought I would add this on the end. In the days of iTunes 5/6 I had it so my smart playlists would update as songs played. So the list I was listening to when the track played it would disappear from the top of the list and a new track would appear at the bottom to replace it. I don't seem to be able to get my new ones based on a suggestion earlier in the thread to do this. Anyone know who to do it?

Yep it is. I have it checked in all of them. It's really strange it doesn't seem to work. One of the playlists is based on the songs not being played in the last 3 months and I have playlists based on combinations of core ones. So if its been played it should move out of the playlists.

I can tell you that my playlists definitely update while in use. Tunes on my "unplayed" list drop off once they finish playing. Tunes on my "unrated" list drop off when I rate them. Hmmm. Maybe try creating a new smart playlist for "not played in the last 1 days" and see if that works.
Actually, my "unplayed parade" playlist just stopped dropping songs. It worked for the first few songs and then stopped. Not sure why that happened. Let me look at mine while you try adding a new smart playlist. |

I will try later this eveing not near my iMac at the moment. I just had the thought could it be these tracks are in more than one playlist so therefore don't drop off? Although that doesn't work with my new music and unplayed in last 3 months combination. Will report back later.
