Having not played any of the "next gereration" consoles I had to vote for the tried and tested PS2. I would however love to play a Wii, it looks like great fun, I know the short spells on my housemates DS have been. Hopefully someone I know will get one soon so I can try it out.

Well, I got a Wii for Christmas. I can say, with great certainty, that is it possibly the most fun I've ever had on a console. It's brilliant. Nintendo is making some really cool moves with the DS and Wii (both of which I love).
Can't wait to see if they're going to try connectivity between them both.

I can easily believe that from some of the videos I have seen around (the one of the guys playing it in the cinema looks brilliant!). I would really like to get a DS, one of the white ones to match my iMac and iBook, but again cost says otherwise, maybe in the sales!!!
Connectivity between the two would be good, although I'm struggling to see how it could work. How do you think it would work as someone who owns both? (I guess from the post u do!) |

Haha, yep! I sure do own both (DS and Wii match my iPod and Macbook).
As for as connectivity goes, I can see something working just like the Gameboy Advance - Gamecube link, only wireless. Both Wii and DS have WiFi built in, so that wouldn't be any problem. Nintendo could probably make some sort of ad-hoc network between the two to make that much work. As far as the usage in games, it would vary from game to game. Some usages for the prior generation were stats for multiplayer games (Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles), adding new areas to games (Metroid Prime - Metroid Fusion), or even areas in game entirely on the portable screen, while being played on the big console (Zelda: Four Swords Adventures) I'm sure if they'll implement something like that, it would be even more innovative than the first offerings with the GBA - GCN hookup, and I can't wait to see if they will do it!

Certainly does sound interesting. I wasn't aware there was the possiblity of connecting the GBA with the Game Cube. If they did it with that generation it certainly sounds like it would be logical with this generation. I can envisage something happening with WiiBrowser and the DS for text input or along those lines maybe.

I think it would be great if you could play the main game on the Wii, and minigames of that game on the DS.
It does remind me of the Dreamcast with its VMU; you could put your Chaos-thingies you collected during the game on the Dreamcast on the VMU and then play with them on the road. The possibilities seem endless. But Sony will try to do the same with PS3/PSP connectivity, I think. Interesting times ahead of us... |

DS and Wii connectivity will span more than just a few minigames on the DS I think. Considering that the DS is pretty powerful hardware, I can see full out parts of the game being played out in full 3D on the DS. Of course it won't look as good as the Wii, but it's still a really great system.
PS3 - PSP connectivity has been somewhat lacking in it's current state, I must say. I do really want to see what Sony has up their sleeves though. What I'd like to see is maybe the ability to remotely control the PS3 with the PSP (for the multimedia functions, etc). Ah well, we'll see in a little while how it all plays out!

I was at Best Buy yesterday, and was amazed by the line to get the Wii. I overheard an employee, about 20 years old, say, "holy **** that line is for the Wii?" The line must have been 100 people long.
