I'd remove a little of the blur, to make it more realistic. The focal point of the blur is on the highway, a fairly flat subject (no pun intended), so the edge blurring shouldn't be too strong. If there was a stronger subject in the center like a very tall building or something, you might be able to get away with the amount of blur you used.

I built a makeshift continuous light studio in my basement today to shoot some of my dad's orchids. I really like how the backlighting turned out. I shot these with my 35-70 f/2.8 (sorry for the Rockwell link, it's all I could find since it's discontinued. I would love to buy a 105 Micro to do some serious high-magnification close-ups, but I want to buy a 17-55 f/2.8 and a D300 before my trips to London and Israel at the end of this year. As always, prints are available by clicking on the photo, which moves me a tiny bit closer to buying more gear .

Wow, beautiful! How is it illuminated? Dark room and a directional light pointing at it from the position of the camera?

Tried to do a HDR yesterday:

View on black (large) (click on the picture for flickr, or here to view it on a black background)

Also considering buying a DSLR now, looking at the pentax k10d. Anyone tried it?

It's a pretty simple setup. As you guessed, it's a dark room with a tungsten light pointing at it from about a 20 degree angle behind it, roughly 4 feet above it. Backlighting is the awesome for flowers.

Be careful with the HDR. Most people, including me, are not big fans of the over-processes HDR's with the halos. I forget if that's from light smoothing or micro smoothing, but check. The best HDR's are ones that look like real photos with impossible real-world dynamic ranges.

I just purchased a 17-55 f/2.8 Nikkor lens off of ebay. It should be here later this week. I saved almost $250 over the new price, so I'm pretty happy. I'll give a report on my new glass when it arrives. I have two old lenses that I don't use, so this fairly large purchase inspired me to sell some of the stuff I've been meaning to. PM me if you're interested in the below:

I just bought a 17-55 f/2.8, so I need to sell my Nikon 18-55 f/3.5-5.6. The lens is in perfect condition, and will be sent with front and rear caps. I also have a 55-200 f/4-5.6 ED, which has barely been used. It is also in perfect condition, and includes front and rear caps and the included lens hood. Both lenses include the users guides and come in the original boxes. The 18-55 was purchased as part of a Nikon kit, so the box does not have the Nikon branding on the outside, however the standard Nikon lens packaging material is on the inside. I would like to sell both of the lenses together for $200 (free shipping). I will sell the 18-55 individually for $100, and the 55-200 for $120. Items are shipped from New Jersey. I will ship internationally if desired, but you will have to pay for the shipping. Please PM me or post in this thread with any questions or comments, or to purchase the items.

I apologize for the lack of images of the lenses, I will try to post them tomorrow morning.

If any TAB folk are looking to buy their first SLR, this kit is perfect. You'll save $100 over what these would cost new. Get yourself a lightly used D40 for around $300, and you have a two-lens setup and body for about $500.

Took this while I was in Oregon.

Click through for embiggening and amazing colors. I'd show off my camera stats, but all I have is a little Canon point and shoot, nothing fancy.

The 17-55 arrived today. Man is it sweet. My only complaint is the positioning of the zoom ring; it's a little too close to the mount for my taste. I can't complain. It's tack sharp and has incredible bokeh.
