I see no need to buy it. Maybe we're lucky, XP prices will be driven down. Then I'll buy a copy of XP for boot camp/parallels.

The new Vista edition:
Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate Limited Numbered Signature Edition What a ****ing title. It is an upgrade and the same cost as the regular upgrade edition, but these are signed by none other than Bill Gates himself. Seriously, who wants a signed, numbered, limited edition of Windows? Bit too much rain up there if you ask me, they're just getting silly now. |

I bet they thought "heck, we have 4 other editions, what's one more gonna hurt! and hey! we can charge $10 more for it too!!" Thats exactly what they did too (according to Amazon.com pricing).
I know, for one, that I won't be buying it soon (or ever, if I can get out of wasting my money on PC games). And no, 'the wow' didn't start 'now', it started when OS X was shipped in 2001.

My brother is buying Vista Ultimate when it come out on the 30th, so then I will try it out and see how much better it is from the (RC2 version) he had earlier this year.
The Vista RC1 was really buggy and hard to use then he got RC2 and it was a bit better but still very slow and buggy! But you can be sour that i will be staying with mac, and saving my money for when Leopard comes out (-: |

According to benchmarks, it's better to stay with XP for now I think. Although Vista doesn't slow down your system that much, it slows it down enough (around 5%) to make me stop and think "hey, do I really wanna purchase this".
I'm saying "forget you" to Vista and waiting for Leopard.

I think this comic sums it all up.
Newegg is already offering OEM versions, you can get the "home premium" non upgrade for $119 which, through my research is fine for the majority of users (if you want it at all, that is). |
