So the latest brilliant aspect to Vista:
Upgrade versions can only be installed as actual upgrades, you must already have a version of XP or 2000 installed on the machine before the system will upgrade to Vista. So no clean install of Vista unless you buy the full retail version. Nice screw job by the MS jack-offs. I get that they want only one installation per machine [I think it is ********, I should be able to install software I buy on my machines, however many I have, and if you are intelligent in your programming you can do what Apple does and block the program from being run on more than one machine at a time on a network. If I run FCP or Aperture on two machines in my house, the second attempt will be halted because another machine is running it with the same serial on the network. So my machine has to be offline or I have to shut down the app on the other computer, which is what I do because I just forgot to close it was all. But this is too intelligent for MS, and is a moot point anyhow since the verification process stops you from running the software on multiple machines anyhow.] But this is a total screw job to customers. Sure, the average consumer doesn't do a clean install and doesn't care if they can't. But power users sure want a clean install, and anyone who has used Windows and its bogged down juiciness should want to start fresh and new, but not for the upgrade price, not anymore. It is so nice to not work with those jack asses' products and deal with the clean efficient nature of OS X and their friendly programmers. Almost every piece of news that I read about Vista makes me that much happier to be a Mac user.

I read that to, they're idiots for doing it like that. If I'm going to do a clean reinstall I'll just want to put the vista disk in there and be done with it. Otherwise I'll have to dig up an XP disk, figure out how to install it over vista (which will probably be a pain because it will probably tell you that you have a later version of the OS installed and won't let you downgrade) then after that I'll have to spend another 3 hours to install vista, then another 3 (or more) to get things back to where they were.

I hear you. M$ has done this to their customers in the past too. I got screwed with Windows ME (which was junk anyways). It was an Upgrade disc from either Windows 95 or 98, so before ME was installed, 95 or 98 had to be installed. It was a real pain, as most Windows users like to have a clean install every 6 months or so to keep their machine running in pristine order.
Such is the life of a Windows user. We should be glad we run Macs instead =D So much smarter!
