Well everything seems to be back to normal here in Springfield, MO. The trees have all been cut down and hauled off, the power (and cable i.e. internet) has been restoted and all is good in the hood. Glad to be back.
@mdmunoz: That was funny. Made me laugh. Thanks ![]() |

Great to have you back Shawn! How long was everything a mess? It seems to be at least 2 weeks since we've seen you last!

@Yuiichi: Things still are not 100% around here. There are still homes in the area with no power at all. This was the worst Ice Storm in history for this neck of the woods. I did not have power or anything for about a week. Luckily I had someplace to go, but man, there are a lot of people who were not as lucky.

Glad to hear things are making their way back to normal Shawn. You know, I have been through earthquakes, blizzards, a hurricane, tornados, a plane crashing behind my house, and more, and never have I been without electricity for more than a few hours, with only one exception. I have been through some long and serious storms, but the only time I was without power was for the New England Blackout a few years back, I was in New York City and went a couple of days without electricity. Odd that the only time I have had to deal with serious power outage was sans storm and so there wasn't anything to bear. It was beautiful weather and we strolled around Brooklyn enjoying all the neighbors actually interacting with one another. It was a shame when the power came back on and everyone disappeared.

@divigation: You have been lucky to not have lost power. A lot of families around here are having some really tough times because of this. Some have depleted their savings, so have gone so far in debt that bankruptcy is a viable option for them (according to the news) sure this was no Katrina, but damn, it has been pretty bad.
@MarkFleser: No. Thank god. We didn't have one single pipe burst. I had the water dripping in the bathroom and the kitchen the whole time as well to help them not freeze over. Some houses on my block however were not so lucky. |

Smart thinking. Something I learned while working at the hardware store last week (the other guy took a vacation for the first time in about 4 years so I got to work. they finally have someone that they can trust to run the store by themselves...me) anyway, long story short, a guy from a HVAC company comes in and buys RV antifreeze for this house whose furnace melted down (literally melted down, he said the whole inside was full of soot and the owners are in Florida) and couldn't get a new furnace in until the next morning. He bought the antifreeze to put in the toilets so they wouldn't freeze...those would be really bad things to have break not just because of the mess but because of the sewer gas that can freely come into the house.
