A running joke between my fiancée about our MacBooks is that mine is referred to as Mac (logical enough), and hers' is Cheese, together, they're Mac and Cheese. But the formatted name is just Tim's Computer. Sorry to be so dull! Though she went far enough to call hers' Cheese.

Mine is now "Green Chili MacBook". I don't know where it came from, but the tradition follows. My two WiFi SSIDs are "Green Chili WiFi" and "Red Chili WiFi". My iTunes share is called "Green Chili Records" and so on. Sounds kind of like a Ziggy Marley song to me.

Haha. I've always wanted to name my Mac Mini something but never did. I did however name my 250GB external Hard Drive 'Peyton' from One Tree Hill :-D

My U2 iPod was called Vertigo, and my old flatmate Kayley named my blue 2G Nano "Stitch" and my 1G Shuffle "Roxy". I've since sold those two iPods though, my current Nano, a Product(Red) 2G, is just called Tim's iPod, and the same goes for my 30GB 5G iPod.

I just had a great idea though, about naming drives, iPods and computers after my favourite roller coasters, so my red iPod would be called Dragon Khan, my computer would become Nemesis, my hard drives could become Shockwave, Oblivion and Inferno, my wi-fi could be Space Mountain and my video iPod could be The Rock & Roller Coaster.

*shrug* Just a thought.

Mine's called RIPIBM... Maybe if you put a space right in the middle of the letters you'll understand why. Ever since I changed to mac I have always called my principal machine this... or Boom... as after my one and only macworld... I must have heard it a hundred times and I guess it stuck with me.

Interesting this has come up. I'm still with the old city names and just named my new 500GB MyBook 2 Colossus! My Nano is also called Galatia. I guess this could be verging on sad. But who cares?!

I'm sure a psychologist or psychoanalyst would have a field day in this forum...

Eh, really, this is no stranger than naming one's car, and many many people - probably more than would admit it - do that.
Besides, naming things like this is practical - I never have to worry about not being able to find my computers across a network, nor have I ever gotten that message that says someone's already got my name.

Yeah, that's really annoying. One thing I have never noticed though; when that happens does the name stick, or revert when you next boot to a network without the name conflict? Hrm...

Still, while I see Ravens point, it would seem to be a good study paper.
