I just recalibrated the battery on my April-born MBP. 88% health before, and 100% after. Shiny!

My battery life started out fantastic (3-4 hours out of the box), but then my charger's status light went out after about 5 months, which meant it wouldn't properly charge my battery without some wiggling around. Eventually I had to replace the battery and charger after 16 months of owning my MacBook and my battery life had dwindled to 45% health and an hour and a half charge capacity. The charger wire was also getting extremely hot and melted the wire at the point of contact with the computer.

@luisop: AppleCare does not cover batteries, so the odds of you getting one for free are slim. I would say however that it's worth having the machine checked out by an Apple Store or AASP as they would want to look at why it's shutting down without warning.

It's always worth going into an Apple store if there's one near you. Some people have gotten very generous replacements from Apple which Apple was in no way required to give.

i thought i was making my battery happier, but apparently not.
i just did a recalibration as istat was showing 45% health. well now that i have recalibrated it is reading 25%.
that sucks.
any ideas out there?
should i recalibrate again?

Hmm.. I've calibrated twice in the last month and still have mine randomly shutting down with no warning at around the 30-40% mark. Guess I need to get it to a Genius Bar.

Sorry, but how do you "recalibrate?" I just downloaded istat. Is it part of that?
