Hi guys!
I'm totally hyped about the iPhone landing in the UK on Friday, but I'm a bit nervous about having my hopes crushed! I just called Vodafone to tell them I would be leaving for 02 and they told me that canceling my contract early would cost £217.17, I need to put my request in writing and wait for my PAC number before I can move my number across to an O2 iPhone! So, I rang O2 and the lady was completely clueless. I asked her what I needed with me when I bought an iPhone on Friday and she seemed to think they'd activate the phone for me and I'd need to take ID with me to the store. I was under the impression that I'd do all that via iTunes. So, I'm thinking maybe I'll just open a new account with O2 with a new number. What's everyone else doing? |

I'm already with O2 actually, and I basically have the same contract without the data built-in. I will be changing my number none the less, just to make sure.
I'd certainly suggest creating a new account with a new number would be easiest, but it will cost you two contract bills a month until Vodaphone pull their finger out.

*patiently waits for the iPhone to be launched in Canada, which will probably be after Australia since we're getting screwed with this phone.*

I am curious to see what drops in 1.1.2, confirmed to be releasing tomorrow. Interesting that Apple won't confirm that the update will relock the unlocked devices out there. I assume they will. If voice notes, international support/keyboards and data storage are all that comes with the update, I will keep mine in unlocked 1.1.1.
I hear the lines are already starting across the pond, good luck tomorrow guys.

Apple installs the new updates by installing the entire OS, so it's almost guaranteed that the unlocked devices will be relocked.
As for the iPhone in Canada, there are nothing but rumours so far. I'm probably expecting it to be released perhaps early 2008, which is when the iPhone is slated to come out in Australia. iPhone works here too, unlocked of course - I've seen at least 2 out in the wild. I still haven't had the chance to play around with one though! I can't wait!

I'm going to try & pick one up tomorrow (Saturday). I've read that they should have lots of stock (everywhere) so hopefully I'll be able to get it tomorrow.
If they don't have any then I'll just order it on the Apple store & wait for it. |

I dropped into a Carphone Warehouse on the way home tonight, and had a brief play with one. I can certainly see what all the fuss is about. Wish I had the funds for one, but sadly no. That and I have a contract already which I won't be able to get out of for a while. Ah well maybe a G2 iPhone for me! ha!

I went to a Carephone Warehouse last night to pick one up. I went straight from work so I was there half an hour early (work is right across the road). Freezing cold and bitter wind; half an hour after I got into the store (first customer and everything) it was decided that the chip and pin card system was down and that I would need two forms of ID which I didn't have. Nearly everyone else was in the same boat.
In the end I went back and picked it up this morning; it's all working great. The guy said they sold 5 in 2 hours because the systems didn't work. They had more staff than they sold phones! Madness, but typical of Britain not to be able to do anything properly. The phone itself is awesome and I can't stop playing with it. The battery is lasting well and it's not kicking me off WiFi like the touch did from time to time so that's great. No complaints so far; you can see some iTunes activation screenshots on Flickr (with my number I know, I couldn't be bothered to edit it out.
