I jailbroke my iPod Touch the day I got it because I felt Apple had tried to cripple it by removing several apps. Have you jailbroken your iPhone or iTouch? If so, what was your original reason? What are your favorite apps? My favorite app is iFlix, a Netflix manager with a very slick interface.

Be aware-- I've had a bad experience with third-party apps.
Apple does not like it. Understand the risks you are taking.

My iPhone has been jailbroken since about a week after I got it. While I use a number of third party apps, the main reason is aesthetic, I don't care for Apple's boring icons and like having the ability to set up my ui for my taste. Someone needs to come up with a Dvorak kb for the iphone and that would be the reason for my jailbreak. I have had 3rd party apps that had issues, but never any problems that weren't solved by removing the software.

If the rumored update is what the leaks show it to be, I just might be updating and living without the jailbreak for a bit when that drops, but those updates are never what I hope they will be.

The main feature of interest for me in 1.1.3 is easy rearranging of app icons. If I had an iPhone rather than an iPod Touch, the cell tower triangulation might be useful. However, I can still rearrange icons via Customize.app. I'd rather just keep 1.1.1 and upgrade when some real new features drop.

Just upgraded to 1.1.3. The Google Maps locator feature is so deadly accurate here in the NYC area, it's scary. It missed my house by 20 feet. Overall a very nice firmware update and well worth the hours of agony to get it jailbroken.

No Jailbreak for me. Very pleased with 1.1.3, and willing to wait for the SDK to bring what will eventually be more apps than we will know what to do with. This thing will take off like all the Palm apps did. And personally have had no probs with AT&T, so not worried about unlocking either.

I've seen a lot of apps available on the internet for the iPhone. The main one im after is an MMS app. What i am confused about though is this... Do the iPhones have to be hacked for the apps to work because from what i understand there are no apps that will work with an iphone (apart from web apps ofcourse)

When will this become available?

You do have to go through a hacking process known as jailbreaking. Apps will begin arriving upon the release of the iPhone SDK which should be released in February. Late February if the past is any indication.
