just wondered if you guys knew of a website which outlines the potential value of Macs. I'm just interested to find out how much I might be able to get for a G4 14" iBook 1.2GHz with 768MB RAM and how much I might get for a 20" Core Duo iMac with 2GB RAM 250GB HDD that was bought 2 weeks before the Core 2 Duo was released.
It's mainly for interest, but it would be interesting to see how much I could get for them combined. I thought in the region of £200 ($400) for the iBook and maybe £600/£700 ($1200) for the iMac. Although that figure seems high when converted to dollars. What do you think? |

Try LowEndMac, in the deals section - they usually have current values. Try this link specifically for your iMac.

I simply look at the value similar machines have actually sold for on eBay. This requires you to log in, do the search and then narrow it to ended auctions in the pane on the left. As a matter of reference I just sold a 500MHz iBook G3 12" for £175+VAT in under 12 hours, so £200 for your machine is a little light.

I am constantly shocked at the resale value of Apple machines, or maybe it's just that fact that you CAN sell them. The resale value of a Mac is one of the reasons that I switched (initially). I think it's great! I know that I can't seem to sell my old PC. Some guy offered me fifty bucks, but I would rather keep it for a server for that price.
It makes me wonder why more businesses aren't going with Mac's. Wouldn't it be handy to have a built in buy-back program for your expensive hardware? It would make an interesting ROI report.

The trouble with keeping old PCs as "servers" (for me, at least) is that I never end up using them. I have 2 older PCs that served me well while in service, but have been gathering dust for a while. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't even get $50 for one of them, being around 9 years old. It's probably not worth it to even bother trying to sell it!
Huzzah for computers that keep their value!

Every mac I've had sold quickly... though I do wish I'd kept a few of them for historic/sentimental value. Anyway, I am definitely glad Apple's hold their value. It makes it a lot easier to drop $3500 on a MBP. ![]()
