I will be surprised if we don't see 3G become an option, or standard feature in the iPhone. And I would guess maybe a memory upgrade to match the 32 Gb touch. 3G and memory also make sense because of all the apps coming (and a desire to download them quickly - as well as have the iTunes store be available without wi-fi).
In regards to 3G, AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson declared: "You'll have it next year." Well it is next year. So if either of those are important to you, I would wait 3 months or so.

I would also wait. I was very close to getting an iPhone until I went to the 02 Shop and they told me they didnt accept Solo cards, or cash... Which was the only thing I had on me! For what I was getting it wasnt the best deal so I extended my current Vodafone contract to avoid temptation and wait for a better iPhone deal to come around when my next 12 months is up...
Anyways, purpose of that story is that I decided to wait because I wanted more memory and 3G for the same price as the non 3G and only 8GB. Also the camera was a little disappointing. The next model will improve everything that users don't like in the current generation in my opinion so I would suggest wait Hope that helps Hope that helps a little |

I'd say employ the same philosophy as with a Mac. If you need it now get it, if not wait. Remember the release in June at present is only for software version 2.0 the rest is just speculation. You could get to June and be disappointed it's not for hardware as well. I'd buy one now if my contract on Vodafone was up, it's a great device and the despite not being 3G it's still quick. My housemate has seen no difference between his iPhone on EDGE and my N73 on 3G.

I just got my iphone... I simply couldn't wait anymore.
I know it might have been better to wait for 3G, or 32Gigs.. (I have the 16Gig) ... but then again.. there is ALWAYS something better coming just around the corner. Even if 3G iphones come out in the next 6 months... then we'll be saying the same things, but with regards to other options. "Should I wait for the 64Gig?", "Should I wait the the holographic screen?"... there is ALWAYS something new just coming. If you want it, get it! I waited a year to get mine... and now as I am typing on my iphone... I think why on earth did I wait. I love it. The simplicity, design, everything just drives me wild. And yeah, it has a few things that I would like to change, but then again so did my blackberry, and I would love to have a few things changed on my macbook too... but it didn't stop me from getting one either. Buy it, love it, and appreciate it every moment you can. ; ) |

I'd wait if you can. The 3G support should be nice. I hear EDGE is pretty slow. Heck, WiFi gets kind of slow when it comes to rendering sometimes on my iPod Touch. Wait a few months and see what happens.

As with all of our advice, it really depends on your needs and your ability to wait. If you need it now, for any reason, buy it now. If you don't, you can wait.
I guess my biggest rational for buying now (if you have the extra money) goes something like: why not wait even longer after the next update comes out. There's always going to be something better, as zeropur so deftly pointed out.

How developed is the 3G network in the US (and in particular around your area)? If you don't have very good coverage any future 3G iPhone is going to be communicating mostly in 2G mode, so you may as well go ahead and buy one now.
I suspect new phones may not come out until as late as October, that's purely speculation on my part, but I'm thinking Apple will probably introduce new models for the holiday season. In the meantime with the software upgrades in June and 3rd party developments there'll be plenty of iPhone activity. As far as I know, version 2 of the software will work on existing phones, so you won't be locked out of any of the new features, although there may be a small charge to upgrade. |

@Ginamos - I don't think that Apple will charge current gen iPhone users if they make the v2 software available to them. The only reason they've been charging iTouch owners for the software updates is because of the accounting method they use (iPhone is on a subscription basis, iTouch is not), as I'm sure you know. If they do release v2 for v1 iPhone users, I don't believe they'll charge based on their track record.
I could be wrong though ![]()
