I remember Steve saying in the SDK Roadmap event that the update will be free for all iPhone owners. I wouldn't worry about that.

Steve definately said in the SDK event that the iPhone 2.0 software update would be free for all iPhone owners. He did say there would be a nominal charge (as with the January update) for all iPod touch owners.

@BBB + phil - oh wow, I totally forgot that the next update is v2. Weird. After Ginamos posted, I was just thinking about v2 coming out with a new hardware revision, like the iPod "classic" has always done.

Thanks for the heads up guys!

My iPhone is on the way, I couldn't wait any longer and being in China where there isn't a 3G network available, the 16GB memory boost was enough to put me over the top and get one.

I need an iPhone now. My Sprint contract expires in six weeks, and I gotta be able to keep up with baseball scores. All web-based e-mail got blocked at work recently, and I pretty much do all my communicating via e-mail. I can see the subjects on my iGoogle page, but that's it.
I only use about 100 minutes per month of call time. I would really, really like a 3G iPhone, but I honestly don't see one coming out until Sept. or so.

Funny my company just started blocking websites recently too, it actually caused me to freshen up my resume and put it out on the market again, I wonder if that's the effect they were hoping for?

Shortly after I wrote this, I snagged one of those $249 refurbished 8GB iPhones from AT&T. It will be here tomorrow!
