Im trying to save up money to get a mac...

which one should i get?
i dont have alot of income so im thinking a mac mini, but i like laptops better than desktops, and macbooks have upgradeable ram.

so should i get the mac mini and have cables and monitors to lug around if i go somewhere? or wait a little longer and get a macbook?

please advise!

What are you going to be using it for Trevor?

If you plan to be "lugging" around your Mini, I would really suggest you wait a little while and go for a MacBook. It's really a fabulous computer for those that travel quite a bit (and for those that don't that just want a notebook

) As you mentioned, you can upgrade the RAM (to 4 GB) as well as the HD, so it's pretty expandable in that sense.

I'd go for the MacBook. Look for a refurb to try to save some money.

Most of the time im at my desk, but sometimes i like to take my computer to my friend's house or around the house (bathroom, living room, etc). the mac mini is more within my price range for only $600, but i would have t get a moniter so thats about a hundred more, and if i would want to go to a different room i would have to take the moniter, but like i said its cheaper, but im still gona save up for SOME type of Mac...

Apple has a MacBook on its refurbished page here for $849. That's the way to go, without question.

Look, I had the same decision as you have.

I opted for the mini (because I simply couldn't wait anymore)

It was fine, but remember that it wasn't made to be thrown around in a bag all day, so hold on and get the macbook. I now have a macbook too, and my mini is being used as a server.

GEt the macbook... you'll love it.

it will be awhile before i have enough money but the refurbished ones are a good price so i can save a couple of bucks on it

I don't know how the education discounts compare to refurbs, but if you are a student take a look at those as well. If you time it well you can sometimes get an iPod Nano with a new Mac.

Just to clarify about the student discounts - they apply only to students in post secondary schools (ie. College or University). Personally, if I was to want to save the most money, I'd also go for the refurbs. You get a Apple Certified Mac with the same warranty that a new Mac would have.
