Okay, so this may be a very boring topic for some of you but i have to ask. Do you think there will be a shell redesign for the macbook for 9th June?
I'm finally going to be buying my Macbook and im gonna be giving my Mac Mini to the parents as they have been running a 900mhz Windows XP laptop for the past year! Haha. Anyways, I'm definitely waiting till then to get the macbook and i have already decided to go for the £699.99 model and then upgrading the ram to 4GB with crucial. Curiosity is however getting the better of me so what do you guys think? Do you expect to see a redesign at the next development conference... (oh and if there is a factual reason towards your hypothesis then please do tell ) |

I would be surprised. The Developers conference is usually reserved for products like the Mac Pro or for software. Now yes, the new iPhone will be revealed at this years, but it times perfectly with the launch of the new iPhone OS which has 3rd party development.
I'm not expecting it, but it will be nice. My guess is it will happen in September along with a revamp for the MBP. |

I don't believe they will change it for the DC. If they did, or when they do, I would be surprised to see it change dramatically - specifically to the brushed aluminum look of the MBP. I think Apple will want to maintain some premium touches for the MBP over the MB. Eventually, if they made everything the same, or nearly so in appearance, the only thing you would be paying the premium for would be the graphics, which arguably isn't worth the grand or so price difference. The speed difference certainly doesn't warrant the price premium. Personally, the big difference left in the two is that case and the graphics card.
Now a new ACD, that makes sense for the DC - but I will stop kicking that "dead horse".

Yeah the ACD has always bothered me too. So overpriced for what your getting.
Everything your saying about the MB is right though. Difference between the MB and MBP will be so minimal that the price premium would no longer be worth it. I know that they have just upgraded the specs on the MB but you think its worth waiting just in case? (before you ask i dont need one now... Im just fighting every fibre of my being to buy one and not be greedy. lol) |

As mentioned, WWDC tends to be place where developer or professional related products are unveiled, rarely consumer products like the MacBook. Since the next major Apple event is Macworld '09, so there's really nothing to gauge when a major new revision will come out. The MacRumors buying guide says it is at "Neutral - Mid product cycle", so if you want it now, just get it.

Yeah, I agree with BBB. My guess (and I have been wrong before- well . . . . actually, frequently) is that the only changes will be the modest speed bumps, which will really be unimportant. The only reason I would consider waiting would be if a blu-ray drive/burner is important to you. I think we may see that option in the next few months, but unless you are into Videography like I am, it is probably not an issue, plus you could probably buy a third party one for less, and share it between computers, if Apple supports 3rds like they do with current drives. If it weren't for that, I would already have an Intel based Mac of some sort. I secretly hope my 4 year old Power Mac G5 2.0 explodes, giving me the excuse I finally need. But it's an Apple, so there's little chance of that
