Hi there everyone, hope you're all ok.

Listen, a strange thing indeed just happened. Here I am, witting at my desk working away... and someone calls me. I go to the iphone, to hit the green button... and nothing.

The top half of the screen is working... the bottom half isn't.

I was using it like 5 minutes ago and all was fine... but now it isn't.

No drops, no nothing.

I went to itunes, hit the button to "start again" with the iphone... and after cleaning everything out, and putting 1.1.4... It still doesn't work

: (

Am at a lost what to do now. Also, I was wondering (being in Chile) if the guarantee would still be valid in this country. I mean, my macbook was paid and bought in San Francisco the last time I was out there, and I got a repair job on the keyboard no problems....

... but is that the same for the iphone? My friend bought it for me in Miami... so does a guarantee for an iphone work the same as a macbook?

I will, of course, return it completely locked up ready and waiting for at&t as it was the day I got it... so no problems with Apple complaining about that.

So... anyone had this problem and solved it painlessly? Or am I the only one with a half dead iphone in the world?

If there is an Apple store in Chile, they might take it. I'm not sure if AASP are allowed to service iPhones though, so you may have to send it back to the states if there is no Apple Retail Store.

No. There is no Apple store in Latin America, so I guess I have to send it.

But CAN you send it directly to Apple? Or do I need to send it to a friend, and THEY have to take it to an Apple store?

Am kinsa nervous, I didn't want to jailbreak the thing... but living in Latin America, it leaves me no other choice... seeing as though the iphone STILL wont arrive here for ANOTHER YEAR

I can confirm that iPhones are not serviceable by AASPs. The only placed you can take them are to the carriers stores, Apple Stores or via Apple directly.

I have had experience (with my boss' iPhone) of doing the whole thing through Apple (phone) and UPS to courier the device each way. The phone call was Monday, the box arrived Tuesday and it was returned, repaired and well on Thursday. I was very impressed with the service all around.

Oh dear...

So, I am going to have to find someone in the US, who I can trust enough to send my iphone to, so they can arrange everything for me. Otherwise if I send it direct from Chile, they are going to realize that it was unlocked, etc to be working here in the first place.....

... me thinks I just lost $400 US dollars on an iphone that no longer works.
