Ok, so in August I'll be getting a new MacBook. What I'm wondering is if there is anything that I really need to do to get ready? If you're wondering, the news MB will be replaceing a PowerBook G4.
Also, I'll be getting an Airport Extreme with a 750GB hard drive and also an Airport Express for my speakers and printer. Another thing I'm wondering about is if there is some way to make the window sizes stay the same on both the MB monitor and also on a 19 in external monitor that I have. Hopefully someone can help me. -Kyle |

Hi Kyle and welcome to the forums. It's pretty hard to know if you need to do anything to prepare for your new machine (congratulations by the way) without knowing how you will use it. Of course I would say it's worth getting a backup of your old machine first and foremost.
I'd also ask if there is a reason you went for an Extreme and a hard drive, rather than a TimeCapsule? With regard to window sizes: unless you change them the windows will stay the same size on both displays anyway. That just defeats the object of having larger displays really though doesn't it?

My only suggestion would be to make sure you have the latest version of all your apps so they are Universal binaries and will work natively on the new MacBook. Back up the PowerBook's HD as well before you transition.

The reason for the Extreme and HD rather than a time capsule is that I already have the external HD, so I don't need any additional space. And with the windows sizes: I didn't really phrase my question very well. I meant that I don't want to resize a window on the 19" monitor, and then go to the MB and have most of the window off screen. I want to window to be shrunken down to match the size of my screen, the same way the window on the 19" matches it. Sorry if that is a bit confusing. -Kyle |

I don't think there's any way to scale the windows based on the monitor size, especially considering windows in OS X that are maximized aren't actually maximized, they have just been resized to fit the screen. In Windows, maximized windows behave differently, and likely will grow with the screen.
