I've had MBPro about 1 1/2 years. The battery, when plugged in shows 98%. When unplugged it lasts about 15 minutes, screen goes black everything shuts down and won't reboot. When I plug in and reboot there's still 75% power. Does something weird happen to batteries after a year? This is all within the past couple of months.

Welcome to the TAB forums, KWV! Hope you enjoy your stay!
Let me ask you this first: do you have AppleCare? If so, it'll be a lot easier for you as your computer is still under warranty. I had issues with my battery too (after about the same time as you) and took it into the Apple Store. They replaced it on the spot in under 10 minutes. I suggest you make an appointment with an Apple Store Genius and see what they can do for you. Batteries aren't usually covered under warranty, but they will help you if it's obviously a faulty battery. Hope this helps some!

Random shutdowns like this usually mean there is a bad cell in the battery. As Yuiichi suggested, take it into the Apple store and try to get it replaced.

This is not a known issue among MacBook Pro batteries, but it can happen on occasion. As BBB says, this is likely a bad cell within the individual battery and not necessarily seen across a batch.
I guess now is time to put a downer on this. AppleCare does not cover batteries. That is not to say that a nice Genius or AppleCare rep. wouldn't swap the battery out free of charge, but it does mean that they don't have to, and in most cases really shouldn't. It's worth a try without a doubt, and if you have AppleCare it's much more likely.

Your battery is covered by Apple up to 300 charge cycles. Go to the System Profiler, and click on 'Power.' You should see a cycle count field. If this is under 300, the Apple store should replace it without question.

This is not necessarily true. Some might have their batteries replaced, however this is not something Apple "should" do, or "always" do. There are more details behind this than are being projected here.
