Hi,
I already posted in the general section, but I'll repeat some stuff here.

My name is Chip and I have been a 'PC' user since 1987. I started on a dual floppy 8088 and have just progessed with the times. I now run a Dell XPS with a dual core 2.66 with all the bells and whistles. I can build PC's, repair PC's, mod PC's and I have software out the YING for pc's. I was in the MAC IS JUNK camp for many, many years. Sorry.

BUT: I have been having all kinds of trouble with PC's manufacturers. HP puts out some decent stuff, but it doesn't last. Same with Compaq, Toshiba, etc. Gateway is on it's last legs and the home-built root is just not cost effective. The last go round I have had is with DELL. I ordered one of their M2010 desktop replacements, and so far I have had to return it, and the 2 units they sent to replace it. That's a total of 3 inoperable brand-new Dell units. <sigh>

So, after talking with some very decent folks on this website, I pulled the trigger and bought the 24", 2.8 iMac with the iCare package, wireless mouse and keyboard and iWork.

Any other program suggestions out there? I also want to put a tv tuner on my system, and I am actively looking now.

So there you have it folks. A real 'newbie' has arrived. I have never, ever actually used a Mac.

I am tremendously excited, yet nervous as well. Talk to you all soon, I hope.

Chip

I have NEVER EVER considered a MAC, until now. I stopped by the Apple store near here two weeks ago to get my iPod fixed, and while they were trying to fix it (they couldn't and I had a new one the next day, impressive to say the least) I started looking around. I totally became enamored with the iMac 24".

Welcome to the TAB forums, Chip! Hope you enjoy your stay!

Let me be the first to welcome you to the world of Macintosh! Your story is quite similar to my own, although I haven't been around quite that long (my first PC was a Pentium II - the good old days of having an 8GB HDD).

As I just have noticed the other thread (with more specific questions), I'll answer on there if anything has been missed!

Feel free to ask anything - I'm sure one of our members will be happy to answer!

Welcome to Tab, and welcome to the Mac Community! I'm sure you'll love both your Awesome new Mac, and what I think is an awesome community of people that use them. As Yuiichi said, ask anything. You'll find, as I have, that the people here at TAB are very generous with their time and knowledge.

Again, Congrats on your new acquisition, you must be excited!

Welcome to TAB and the Macintosh platform. Let us know i you have any questions. As for a TV tuner, as houltmac mentioned in your other thread, eyeTV is the best option. Their TV tuners aren't better than competitors like Miglia, but eyeTV software is the best.

I just want to ask one simple question which i am struggling so many days, i have asked so many people but i didn't get answer or i may not understand their language. Something is happening , now you tell me why we use different operating systems, we can use unique one where it is reliable and of easy standard. Also whats the difference between the Microsoft and other operating systems, please do mention in difference in features also.
